What mpg do you get on your Protege 5?

Hey guys, I'm looking at purchasing a Mazda protege 5 for about $8k. It has 120xxxkm on it and is completely stock. I'm getting it from dealer so it comes with warranty for 2.5 years or 80k.

I'm wondering what is the gas mileage I can get out of this thing and if it's worth it for the price I'm paying? Thanks.

stock p5 is 22-30mpg depending on the tranny and driving conditions. i found my auto got terrible milage, but not as bad as my msp i guess hah.

if its stick and you drive it softly, it will treat you well but p5's dont ever see much more than 400km/tank.
fyi. reliable cars that dont need much attention. I never had a single problem with it that wasnt self inflicted... also.. unlike my msp..

400km a tank? Wow it must either have a really small gas tank or you're a little off. Any other testimonies on this?

mazda's like to run rich. i went through about $20-$30 week when i was just going to work and back. i had two jobs though.

when gas was stupid it was more than that, and i walked a lot more. if you are looking for gas milage, get a 3 instead. much better.
im sure you could do better on a tank of gas thank i did since i had a little fun with my p5. but even when grannying it and never going above 2000 rpm, it still chugged the gas.
actually, my msp might be a little bit better if i keep it out of boost, but t25's build boost at like.. a sliver of throttle it seems heh.

I'm guessing yours is a 2.0L too right? Damn...I hope the mileage is better than that in the one I'm about to get.

ah. it should be better than the suv for sure ha ha. just dont floor it a lot. stick or auto? not that it really matters. they are within 2mpg of each other.

if you do get into a protege, you should check out the local protege scene =).

modding them is pretty contagious though.

wow..this thread is full of useless info...for fuel economy to make any sense, it should be posted as L/100km...

anyways, my mp5 does around 10L/100km w/ a 5speed transmission. i don't drive it hard but i don't granny it either. shifts are usually between 2000-3500 rpm.

which is actually bang on as advertised. (10.7 city / 8.4 hwy / 9.8 combined)

I would regularly get 600km/tank (54L) before I went FI.

First tank on a totally stock '02 5MT P5: 8.52L/100km (583.3km from 49.697L). That's 27.6mpg for you Americans.

Mixed driving with rush hour, city stop-go, highway buzzing along at 3,500 RPM (damn that short 5th gear), and some "spirited" driving in between.

Just filled up again this morning and hoping to reign it in a bit to crack 8L/100km... Keeping the RPM around or just under 3,000 on the highway should help (speed limits here are 90km/h, anyways).
