RANT: GTR comparisons

New rs member, so not sure if anyone has posted something like this, or if something like this is usually on RS, but to clarify not a GTR fanboy or nething like that, also I understand the GTR may have had some reliability issues, but i'm writing this in a completely performance/numbers aspect

Does anyone else find it strange that the GTR is compared to performace cars that, on paper seem miles ahead of it. First off starting with specs off wikipedia, dunno either of these cars in detail too well

R35 GTR
480 bhp @ 6400 RPM
430 lb-ft @ i don't know wiki doesn't say...
estimated 3800 lbs ...wiki again

Z06 (LS7)
505 bhp @ 6300 RPM
470 lb-ft @ 4800 RPM
3132 lbs

Considering the Power to weight ratio, drivetrain differences, weight distribution, etc., (mainly weight disadvantage) shouldn't the GTR be way way slower (I mean really really slower not a couple of seconds on the nurburgring) in any drag race/track race?!??!?!

And While I'm on it, is the nurburgring really a good benchmark for car performance, the track is so long small driver errors could seriously affect lap times.

So really what does it say about how far Nissan's (porsche's?!?!) engineers and technology have gotten this car? Seems like they aren't getting the respect they deserve, I mean ignoring the horrible interior and practicality, reliability, voiding of warranties, etc.:haha:

P.S. can't wait for someone to talk about how this car has gone all robotic, and the attack of the GTR nerds, hopefully starting a nerd vs douche war on RS. either way, expecting some excellent comments.

Your about 3 months behind this debate has been beat to shit. Search it up and do some reading there are hundreds of pages to be read on this topic.

Berz out.

aww mang :( I hate the RS search tool though, lol, thanks for letting me know though

When you say it should be slower on the drag race, its AWD and has launch control...

which is a recipe for blown transmissions!

ilvtofu 04-18-2009 09:42 AM

doesn't awd and launch control only help with the spinning off the line, shouldn't the power advantage of the other car overtake after that?

lol yup blown transmissions, but correct me if i'm wrong doesn't the new launch control in the gtrs only rev up to around 2000-3000 rpm? which shouldn't be too bad

Death2Theft 04-18-2009 10:01 AM

PPG also makes stronger gears to prevent that problem, fix is about 1500$ and there are 800hp kits out now by switzer for like 18k.

Rikaro 04-18-2009 10:33 AM

not a gtr fanboy (and will never be), but the 2010 gtr are reprogramed and are less likely to have transmission failures now.

I guess they just released the car too quickly for the market

This topic has been beaten to shit and everyone concluded that the GTR > all

OEM brand new wise, it's faster than most, and if it isn't faster, it's probably cheaper.

aka a good buy.

However, i'll still have it somewhere in me to appreciate the R32, regardless of how many idiot fanboys they have.

!SG 04-18-2009 01:22 PM

hey, if either car is free and trouble free, id take it =)

Driver probably has the biggest influence on the outcome.

Nissan GT-R posts new 7m 27s Nurburgring lap time
Posted Thu Apr 16 2009 12:58 AM by Viknesh Vijayenthiran

http://www.motorauthority.com/conten...16-630x360.jpg

It wasn't long ago that the public spitting contest between Nissan and Porsche regarding the GT-R's lap time around the famed Nurburgring was in the spotlight. Nissan started the tussle by recording an astonishing lap time of 7m 38s around the benchmark circuit and then withered this down to just 7m 29s – a full three seconds faster than the lighter and more powerful Porsche 911 GT2.

Porsche struck back with claims the GT-R was only capable of finishing the 12.9 mile circuit in around 7m 54s, and that the model used for the laps must have been modified. Nissan then retaliated by releasing a video of the run as well as presenting the actual car used so that it could be independently examined as completely stock.

To lay the matter to rest once and for all, Nissan has run its updated 2010 ‘Series II’ GT-R around the Nurburgring - and the lap times are even better than last year's model. Differences between the 2010 model and the outgoing version include a 5hp (4kW) bump in power, a slightly modified suspension setup, stickier tires, and a reprogrammed gearbox.

Driven by Nissan’s head driver and former F1 racer Toshio Suzuki, the GT-R lapped the famous circuit in 7m 27.56s. The car was completely stock, although it was using the optional Rays forged alloy wheels from the SpecV model.

Nissan, however, is determined to beat the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, which posted a lap time of 7m 26.4s last year, and made another attempt the next day but unfortuantely rain ended the event.

Timpo 04-18-2009 05:15 PM

conclusion: GT-R > Z06

shenmecar 04-18-2009 08:45 PM

ZR1.................................

felixy69 04-18-2009 08:50 PM

well Z06 would put rubber to the ground since is FR

GTR is 4WD so it would pick up speed right away, from start or right out of corners

WHAT?

SpuGen 04-19-2009 03:13 AM

Awww.

Poor GT-R needed a re-tune and it's Attesa training wheels still couldn't make it go faster than the ZR1.

And really, they should be aiming for the Viper lap time.

Sorry, but the ZR-1 has done a 7:22. The 7:26 was a GM test engineer, but when their test driver Magnusson went back he ran 7:22.

So Nissan cheated again to get a fast time? Why is this even newsworthy? Nissan is the biggest bunch of liars and cheaters there are when it comes to 'ring times.

Yes this topic has been beaten to death, but not fully discussed. My comments about Nissan cheating in the last thread have gone 100% unanswered by the Nissan fanboys, as always. Then they show up in some new thread talking about GTR 'ring times and when the evidence they cheated is presented they all leave the thread never to post again.

And the cycle repeats.

There has NEVER EVER been any sort of reasonable explanation to show why the GTR can stay side-by-side a ZR1 on the long straight at Nurburgring when EVERY SINGLE MAGAZINE TEST has the ZR1 (and even the Z06) walking away from the GTR in any sort of straight line run.

I really hope the video of this run is clearer than the last one. I want to dso another side-by-side comparison of this run vs the ZR1 down the long straight and see if it also stays even (which I'm sure it will) thereby PROVING that Nissan cheated AGAIN.

Eastwood 04-19-2009 10:52 AM

Of course Nissan cheated. When a Porsche test driver tested the GT-R, they recorded times slower by 20 seconds than that of what Nissan claimed.

No one else except Nissan drives the GT-R on the Nurburgring now, so they can pretty much claim whatever times they want.

Even though they outright lied about everything regarding the GT-R, it hasn't hurt Nissan's sales.

Timpo 04-19-2009 12:13 PM

the GT-R should be competing with Z06...and Spec-V should be competing with ZR-1

Please list the performance (ricey) items that the "Spec-V" has.

it has ricer mods like more hp (import style rice) more torque (domestic american truck style rice) and subtle changes to the body for aerodynamic and cooling purposes (extreme rice, ultimate definition of rice)

here's a picture of the intense computerized riceyness which you cant crash because it has attesa that drives for you and is completely unlike conventional 4WD vehicles like evo's or sti's:
