Rhys Millen Hyundai Genesis POWER by NISSAN !

IS THIS A JOKE ???
Hyundai sponsors rhys millen to compete in formula D
but Hyundai gave him a Genesis with a NISSAN motor in it....
bahahah ...i find that extremely funny..i don't know about u
seeing the genesis in the drifting world gave me hopes to Korean cars...but after seeing this vid.....now i think they are worst then Chinese cars .... very disapointing

here's a vid clip

Way to sensationalize this. What are you, Fox news?

RM didn't have enough time to tune the Hyundai engine, so in order to have the car ready in time, they put in an engine that would fit from another auto manufacturer, which happened to be Nissan.

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/15/r...ith-nissan-po/ :
Quote:
As the opening event in Long Beach approached, Millen and his team came to the realization that the new engine wouldn't be ready in time. This is where the Formula D rules came in handy.

Unlike NASCAR, where every car is virtually identical, the rules governing drivetrain modifications in Formula D are far more lax. That's why you'll see such oddities as a Lexus IS running a Chevy small-block or a Scion tC with a NASCAR engine under the hood. Drifters mix and match all manner of hardware, although most of the teams are independent and don't have manufacturer backing. That's where Millen and his association with Hyundai is different.

It's not unheard of for race teams or manufacturers having difficulty with performance or the timing of their programs to go elsewhere for help. Perhaps the most recent example was in 2004-05 when Chevrolet, which had been struggling with the performance of its in-house developed IRL engine, decided to scrap it and go with a re-badged Cosworth engine. Cosworth, of course, had long been associated with arch-rival Ford.

Which brings us back to the present. After we got the anonymous tip about the non-Lambda engine, we contacted Hyundai who put us in touch with Millen. Millen told us that when it became obvious to the RMR crew that the new Lambda V6 wouldn't be ready in time, they opted for Plan B. Instead of delaying the launch of the car, the decision was made to proceed with a different engine until the Lambda was ready. The closest thing they could find in terms of size was a Nissan VQ35.

We also talked to Hyundai spokesman Jim Trainor about the situation. Trainor told Autoblog that Hyundai is happy to be working with Millen's team and given the short time frame and limited budget for the program, the decision to launch the car with the Nissan engine was totally understandable. Trainor took some of the responsibility for the delay, as a result of pulling Millen away from his race shop to participate in launch events for the road car.

In spite of not being informed by Millen about the engine change, it doesn't appear that Hyundai is too upset about the situation. "We look forward to Rhys getting the Hyundai powerplant in the car, Trainor told us, "we're excited to be running the full drift season, and we're happy we've got one of the top drivers campaigning the new Genesis Coupe."

why did they use Nissan engine? that's like advertising Hyundai's engines are inferior to Nissan.

Is the original Genesis engine not a mitsu unit anyways?

I don't even think they have their own engine for it, so what's it matter if they swap for a nissan

Millen and his team came to the realization that the new (Hyundai) engine wouldn't be ready in time for Formula D. So he put a temp. Nissan engine in it

no Mitsu 4B11 and Mitsu V6 engine as well. It's a derived engine from the current North America Eclipse model.

or wouldnt be good enough.....since they are sponsored..they can say whatever...

HKS already made a pretty nice Genesis demo-ing their parts...
but why didn't they go all out into building the motor with forges item as well?
may be they figure its not worth it....hahha

So has anyone bothered to read the article explaining why they aren't using the Hyundai engine yet? Maybe y'all should give that a try.

It's not like you can just walk into lordco and buy forged guts for a Hyundai engine....

Apparently nobody on here knows that you can't just slap together a built engine, when the engine was just released.

Should go with a Hyundai V8 instead

of course it would be even better if they kept the nissan engine, and then dropped it into a Nissan

I was just going to say. Half of the thread talk in here is shit because they don't read.

Anyways, it'll be interesting to see how well they can tune the Hyundai engine.

EDIT: Spelling.

it's pretty heavy, as far as I know...the V6 Genesis gets smoked by both Nissan 370Z and Ford Mustang GT on every magazines' and websites' test.

The Genesis is HUGE. You can't expect a big boat to move that well/quick. Take a look through the RS spring meet pics and you'll see that the Genesis is pretty darn big compared to the 350z it's parked beside.
