Of course it would not "look it" biggest changes ever! Thats pretty thoughtful of them to flash the rear lights when the car is sliding.

heleu 04-18-2009 07:43 PM

Nice video. She can drive.

I like how she says all the great stuff about the transmission, but because of the shift direction, she says she's going to get the manual.

thumper 04-18-2009 07:54 PM

what's going on with the tailights? are they strobing?

Presto 04-18-2009 08:03 PM

I think the brake lights strobe, so they are more noticeable. The probably go solid after awhile, but the initial strobe helps other people driving behind the car notice it.

shenmecar 04-18-2009 08:37 PM

she has some balls to drive like that in the snow =P

i thought about that, but i thought there is a 3rd brake light and i don't see it coming on, and it's still strobing as she's accelerating out of the turns?

Presto 04-18-2009 11:35 PM

Dunno then! All I know, is that I like Sabine with longer hair!

Marco911 04-19-2009 07:31 AM

The tail lights are LED. They do not strobe. It's the effect of filming and the refresh rate. It's the same thing when you film a computer monitor and can see the screen flickering.

tofu1413 04-19-2009 11:07 AM

PDK's ways of shifting ruined itself.. it is a good transmission though...

whats with porsche's marketing people..?? (even the stock mazda 3 has a proper +/- shifter)

stupidity? you'd think they would copy vw's dsg, since they own almost half of vw group and the systems are almost the same.

I could be wrong, but coming from a electrical engineering background, LED does not flash because it's a essentially a diode that allows DC to pass through 1 direction. unless it is controlled by some sort of multiplexing circuitry that shifts the current(which makes no sense at all for the purpose of brake lights).

Timpo 04-19-2009 12:11 PM

who is she?

Wrong Marco. They are called Adaptive Brake Lights that are offered in most new VAG Vehicles. Has nothing to do with filming:haha:

Sabine Schmitz

I don't know about other folks, but I fell in love with her after I saw her go around the Nurburgring in a Ford Transit van.

Death2Theft 04-19-2009 02:11 PM

The mistress of the ring, riceboy.

Oh snap, you've been told by Boostaholic.

so does it do what the link says, "effective warning of rear end collisions"?

Marco911 04-20-2009 07:25 AM

I guess in a lot of those scenes, the PSM activates the active brake lights. But there are some cars that when filmed, appear to have flashing tail lights even under normal driving. Check out the veyron at about 44 seconds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEL5A...eature=related

Having a similar background...I would like to toss out the argument that they could flash. Most LED's in system operate with a pulsed voltage. This allows the user to get the brightness out of them but consume less power in general. The frequency is high enough that you don't see this happening though. This was a fairly standard thing to build in school....

She is driving a 2WD Porsche in the snow. She's crazy!

hk20000 04-20-2009 10:49 AM

holy crap Pretz managed to break the RS board! Everything from his post down is shifted to the right and kind of posted "within" his post!!!

MAD HAX0R!

At the risk of being a jerk, what are you talking about??

An LED is not essentially a diode, it is a diode. But what are you trying to get at? How is there any particular difficulty with accomplishing a strobe effect just because it's a unipolar element?

What does multiplexing have to do with whether or not an LED can be flashed? What is this "current shifting" you speak of?

I can't see this needing anything more than an integrating amp, a switch, and a schmidt trigger. So what is that, like two op-amps, a MOSFET, a cap, and like four resistors? You could pick all that off a floor. Not that hard to generate a square pulse out of DC.
