| Sound Card question, can i run 2 sound cards at the same time?
ok here's the issue. i kinda left it on the way way way back burner but cuz my computer took a dump recently i figure id try to figure it out.
the issue is my mobo Asus P5LD2-deluxe comes with onboard sound, Realtek HD audio. Its great cept for 1 thing, the line-in doesnt work. i tried everything from assigning it to a different jackt, basically everything i could find via google to try to fix it. finally found my answer. the audio is junk! basically its glitch in the manufactuer. other ppl have the same issue.
what i did before was just install a sound card, and used that while just avoiding the onboard audio.
the question is, yes i can go and use the soundblaster 5.1 again, but more curious if i can initialize both of them, use the (audio in) "line in" on the sound blaster while utilizing the realteks audio for everything else (audio out).
Yes i can go back to using the soundblaster exclusively. but more or less curious if its possible to do this?
oh yeah, all drivers are up to date:
os is winxp sp3

from what i remember, u have to disable one or the other if u have 2 sound cards. they cannot be both used at the same time.
i'm more curious as to why u want to use the line in on the sound blaster and the rest with the onboard audio? y not just use the soundblaster all together?

thats the set up i had before. completely disabled the onboard sound, and enabled my soundblaster card.
it was more of a curiousity if you can run 1 sound card as audio input, and other as audio output.
ill probably just go and re enable the sound blaster card again and basically use the old set up. Quote:

You can choose which inputs and outputs to use in the sound settings if both cards are enabled.

Yes you can, most software that uses sound will allow you to select which device it uses. You can even record from one soundcard to the other if you want.

OMFG! what a stupid headache.
turn off computer to verify what sound card i got.
turn computer back on, bios ERROR?!
grab laptop, google search the problem, stupid ai booster. managed to disable it and so no bios issues (computer is not overclocked)
2nd issue, windows wdm winmm compatibility error. what this did was made my computer not be able to detect ANY sound devices. after number of attempts, reinstalling, everything here and there, i finally just said fuck it, deleted everything in sound and audio devices, and BAM, everything is working again!
so for now, im just not using the onboard sound, and just using my trusty 10+ year old sound card...
