Too bad, he put a lot of effort into building the big cat a good, secure home. But I guess that's a whole can of worms unto itself.

This guy is having an open house Saturday to raise awarness about the safety of the enclosure since he's been ordered to get rid of it by June 15th. Wonder what's gonna happen to the poor cat.

I heard on the radio that the cage has been deemed safe and secure by an independant inspection, so apparantly he won't have to get rid of it?

Heard on the morning news that he's having an open house of sorts to view his kitty. Saturday, 9-4, I may have the address wrong, but 1515 Millstream Rd. sounds familiar.

I wonder how much food that thing puts away per day.
I know you can own a lynx in Ontario, and they consume 3-4 lbs of raw meat daily. And a bit less during the winter months, when the animal is less active.

Not a big fan of keeping a tiger in a cage that small no matter how safe the cage is. For me it's not about safety but more about the tiger being in its natural habitat.
I don't see how putting it down will help either.

I don't see how putting it down will help either. | This issue with Suzy, is that she doesn't exist in nature, and has no natural habitat. Further to that, she was born and bred in captivity, and wouldn't make it in the wild.
I went to check the place out today, and while I can't say that her current surroundings are 100% great, it's better than where she was before in Lake Cowichan. She can't go to any zoos, as she's not a pure bred, and no zoo will take a 'mutt' tiger, apparently.
The offer that came from Colorado to take her sounds nice at first, but when Dave was describing the ordeal surrounding getting the cat down there, I wouldn't want to put any animal through it. Big quarantine time before she crosses the border, then more on the other side. Then when she gets to Colorado, she will be in solitary confinement until the people there can determine if the other cats will accept her in the common area. If they do, it's only 2 hours a day of play time, with the rest spent in a cage smaller than where she is now.
Dave has plotted out an area to expand Suzy's current pen, but can't justify spending the coin until he knows for sure that he can keep the big cat in the highlands. I think he's got the right ideas and motivation to make a good home for Suzy, and I support what he's doing.
