Really? I have an '05 and it pings on anything less than 91. I'll try 89 occasionally, but I have to baby it to prevent that from happening. I thought they even raised the compression on your gen.

00 Cavalier with L67 engine swap = 94 octane, wherever I can get it since it's all from the same refinery (we only have one in Vancouver...).. tune & blower makes engine go BOOM if I use anything less..

98 Cavalier with 03 Ecotec swap = 87 octane, no point in wasting money

in asia octane is measured in RON, which means u are filling up with 99ROn, which is just a 93octane gas.

On my fuel door the sticker says 95RON=91Octane

Just use whatever is recommended. My Spec-V recommended 91, so I gave it 91. It can retard timing if lower octane is used, but that also impacts performance negatively. Driving it on 87 was ass. My current car, the Prius, only sips 87, so it's a lot easier on the pocketbook.

Really! Absolutely zero problems with 87 and the engine pulls hard with it
However I believe the Spec-v requires premium

only stupid people think motocycle needs octane 94 or higher because of the high compression.

I used to put 89, sometimes 87, in the R6 and it screams healthy at any rev. Octane 94 actually gives you worse milage

I've used 87 for everything... Yaris, MR2 Spyder, ZX6R, even the RX8.

On the previous gen (b15) it's only 5 hp. The difference is a supposedly less restrictive muffler. Same engine.
