It looked like the dad was wearing some boots (maybe steel toed?). That kick to the head of a kid could cause some serious damage like head trauma, possible brain damage, etc. The human body is fragile.

if the kid had full mount and was pounding the crud outta my son i'd do the same
but in that situation i woulda let my son take it
