I do say however, old chap, the lane for the gents on the bi-cycles is quite idiotic, I'm expecting many a deaths from this. Jolly day to you all.

If you vote for NDP, more of this type of socialist/hippie idea will become reality.

The only reason VISION won was because nobody cared about the municipality election except for those lefty po sci students and their 420 friends who think it's time for them to make a difference.

Unfortunately, I think you're right. Robertson had this as one of his things to do, and I actually posted about it in the election thread here. I hope you guys complaining didn't vote for COPE or Vision. If the NPA was in, this wouldn't be happening.

i couldn't agree more. I have started to cycle myself (cept without the gay vests). However, robbing BB of 1 lane will be nightmare. Its already packed to the point of explosion. And in case those government knobs haven't noticed, our population is going up, but our infrastructure was made for the 1960s.

BB is my favorite bridge in GVRD.

Well, was. :(

The Olympic thing got leaked and ppl needed someone to blame. Now, the nutjobs are in charge. I swear, ppl spend more time thinking about what they want for dinner than they do before casting a ballot.

03aspec 05-08-2009 05:33 AM

buy an international cxt and run over all the bike driving hippies. end story.

Mugen EvOlutioN 05-08-2009 08:17 AM

what the motherfucking fuck man

city of vancouver obviously dont know wat the fuck they are doing.

People drives pretty fucking fast on burrad, and u wonna sacrifice a lane just for the fucking downtown retarded bikers? fuck that shit, they dont follow signs nor signals. They cross when its red, than take up a lane turning left thinking they pedal to the metal will get them to ride above 20km. Just get the fuck out of my way. U aint powered by 1000cc motor, you are powered by your uselss two legs with those whimpy muscles of yours.

:rolleyes::rolleyes:

i cant wait till someone gets hit, that will change the city's mind

2 weeks? dude, that shit happens right now. cyclists are exempt from EVERY rule on the road, they can do w/e the fuk they want. if you hit one, they're always the victim, and you're the evil bad driver

It won't convert any amount of people worth this whole project for.

Think about it, you bike to work esp in summer you sweat. What kind of environment is downtown? Business/offices WITHOUT shower arrangements.
So everyone's going to go into work sweaty now? How about their briefcases and such? backpacks don't fit the professional look. Even if they could do without the shower, they would have to bring a change of clothes because unless you live IN downtown biking over the bridge in non athletic clothes is stupid. If you're biking within downtown the bridge change is pointless.

Where would people store all their bikes? People already stupidly tie them to poles near the curb or parking meters, I've seen large cars paralleling into spots crush bikes cause they don't see them and the tail goes over the curb when they pull in.

I drive that bridge almost every morning rush/afternoon rush for my job. Morning rush hour isn't too bad, traffic moves, but come 5:00pm (give or take an hour) going IN to downtown becomes a parking lot. The right lane onto pacific is packed and so is lane 2 because people try to cut into the right lane onto pacific at the last minute.
And that's a NORMAL night. Nights when there are big events like hockey games and concerts it's even WORSE.

So this whole take a lane out for bikes is stupid and will solve NOTHING and waste money that could be better spent somewhere else.

Besides, have people SEEN how wide the sidewalk is on that bridge??? it's almost as wide as the seawall path. it's wider than city street side walks.
you could get another lane maybe 2 out of the side walks if they weren't there.
And as the news has said, no one, not even cyclists think it's a good idea.

cars behind me must think of me as a douche bag ricer who ran a red, and if they spot a cyclist running a red? meh....just another biker..who gives a fuck.

everytime i see a cyclist who cant wait for the light to go green, i get excited hoping the fucker gets hit by a car and run over like a pancake with cherry red honey syrup splatter all over than we got ourself a JACKPOT

I travel that bridge often, if it were setup like Lionsgate with a lane that alternates direction, all would be fine.

Plus when the Cambie bridge is back up to normal, and construction done on Granville all will be fine.

I think bikers that run reds are just as dumb as drivers.

They can get a ticket just like a car for running the red. They don't cause there's not a lot of police to catch them. You could run reds all day (except the intersections with cameras) and probably never get caught too.

Since they are closing the WEST lane (ie from downtown) then there should be no problem since the west side of Burrard bridge has far less congestion.

taylor192 05-08-2009 11:37 AM

Parking is so ridiculous downtown I don't drive it anymore. If I visit friends downtown I bike from Kits.

Its a 20 min bike ride going at a slow pace, hardly enough to even break a sweat.

You're in Kits, so yeah, biking to Downtown would actually be quite nice. I'm just not sure that making a bike lane is the wisest choice. Commuters in four-wheel whatcha-ma-callits already have one heckuva time trying to get into Downtown and biking isn't necessarily something convenient for everyone. It may not be a good thing, but hey, that's the way things are right now. I just don't see businesspeople biking to work in their suits, working up a sweat, or maybe muscians biking with a guitar and an amp and..yeah. Mind you, I do know some people Downtown that bike to work, head there early and chang into their power suits, but not everyone has that luxury of time.

Bike lane? Compounds the problem as it is right now. You want less people to drive into the melting mess that is Downtown traffic? I suggest you look at transit first.

I used to keep a change of clothes in my cubicle, its not hard to do.

Musicians, are you for real? There are more fast food workers downtown than musicians, who cares about the exceptions, debate the rule.

Time isn't a luxury, its a choice. In my case, I actually save 20-30 mins biking downtown.

Driving was such a headache I switched to my bike. Sometimes the problem has to get big enough before people consider changing.
