1 lane lost on Burrard St. Bridge for bikes

Quote:
VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Vancouver City Council has approved 'option three' of the Burrard Bridge bike lane trial, meaning drivers will lose one lane on the bridge. Council voted to designate the southbound curb lane and the northbound sidewalk for bike traffic only. Pedestrians in both directions will use the southbound sidewalk--which will be pedestrian only.

A trial run of the arrangement will start in June. The trial re-allocation of the west curb lane of the Burrard
Bridge will be between Cornwall Avenue and Pacific Street. City staff will implement a number of modifications to the configuration and operation of the road network downtown and south of False Creek.

Three options were considered, including one which would have closed one lane in each direction.

I give it 2 weeks before some cyclist gets run over because they think they own the road.

Ezekiel 25:17. The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you.

Lets protest to get a wheelchair accessible lane as well. There has been a growing trend of wheelchair users and I believe we need to let our wheelchair operators have a designated lane for their safe mobility around the streets of Vancouver.

too bad it's not feasible to do a counter-critical-mass, not to mention it'd be illegal for the drivers

not surprising... no sympathy for bikers on a car forum

my concern is, come winter time, there won't be many bikers and it'll be a huge waste

this is awesome from a comedic perspective.

i like how the government tends to provide "solutions" by creating more problems

and man we gotta spend an extra 1.5mil for this? great.

Glad I never take that bridge, maybe every biker should get a complimentary bottle of water as they cross the bridge too

I'd say it's a good way to convert some of the lazy downtown commuters to cyclists.

Should be interesting to see how this works.

I'm wondering if more people will bike across the bridge now... only time will tell if this is successful or not.
