Holding a Number with No Plan

Alright, I used the search... and frankly I was surprised I couldn't find anything on this.

So here's the situation, my contract is over with Rogers, I'm just continuing to pay the usual monthly plan price as I am not going to sign another contract yet. In a couple months I will be leaving the country for about 6months and I don't want to have to pay for a plan while I'm gone to hold on to my current number. Is there anything special I need to do to keep my cellphone number with no plan so that I can use it and sign up for a new plan when I'm back?

Thanks.

Perhaps a "pay as you go" or a prepaid plan?

Most companies will let you keep your account active for a monthly fee. I think it's about $10/month. Even if you do go prepaid with Rogers, you still have to keep your account topped off every month or they will give your number to someone else if you fail to do so.

I've been doing it with my pay as you go =S I think you can go for like a month without topping it up or whatever and still have the number, not quite sure how long before you lose it though.

And FYI, once you go over to the account hold fee/plan, you can't go back to your old plan pending that its a grandfathered plan.

^^ exactly.

if you go for pay as you go and you don't top off you got 6 months before that number is burned.
