| How good is your eyesight (havin doubts about my eyesight even after getting glasses)
So my vision sucks, well not THAT bad, -1.5 and -1.75 for each eye for contacts. However, I don't know whether my "expectations" for good eyesight after wearing contacts are too much or is my eyesight actually ok.
When I went back to the optometrist after 1 week of wearing contacts, he checked my vision and said no further correction needed (I was able to read the small line on the screen albeit it was not 'sharp', and had to blink many times.
Well, I don't know sometimes when I'm reading street signs or w/e while driving, especially at night, I sometimes notice for some small signs I can't see them properly until I'm within iono 30 feet. I don't know whether it's just my unrealistic expectation or whether this IS 'normal' vision.
So just wondering (this applies to you whether you wear glasses or not):
With contacts/glasses on (if you need them):
1. Can you read the licence plate of the car in front of you if it was say 5-6 car lengths in front of you in the daytime? night?
2. Vancouver street signs (the black ones), can read the small numbers (street numbers) on the bottom corner of the signs from a distance of say from one side of the intersection to the other? LIke if your stuck at a light, you look across the street on the side to see the black street sign, can you read the numbers?
3. Street lights at night time...do you see them as a crisp and clear "orange" or "yellow" w/e colour ball with NO streaks coming out? Or do you see streaks coming out? I sometimes see streaks, albeit not big. It fluctuates...
4. Do you sometimes have days where you "notice" that your eyesight is below what it was on other days? So some days it fluctuates?
5. Would you describe it as "sharp" vision, or just good? By sharp I mean like hardly and blurring whatsoever, even for really far away print.
Just wondering, it's my first time getting glasses/contacts.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You have cheap glasses, get the coating on it and the streaks wont appear!

My eyes arent even as bad as yours and i have trouble reading signs, especially at night with all the lights. The glare and streaks KILLS me.
Mine are both -1 i only needed them for reading board in high school, but recently ive been wearing them a lot more and especially when i drive and im scared to not wear them when i drive at night lol
And yeah, i def feel like some days my eye sight is worst than others, but only rarely when i had a bad sleep the night before or something
Dont worry, you'll get used to it lol
And get good looking glasses if youre gonna wear glasses :] haha

my bad eyesight is attributed to too many hours surfing on revscene
but seriously... long hours at work being an office drone in front of a computer all day isn't helping. i was at starbucks waiting in line and realized i could barely focus on the signboard behind the counter... not a good sign
i used to have really good coverage for optometrist and eyeglasses at my last job, but where i work now there is absolutely nothing for eyesight... sigh.

I've tested at 20/10 vision. Have never had any problems reading anything. Somehow I was the odd one in the family. Both parents need glasses, brothers both needed glasses (they have since had PRK/Lasik) and I ended up lucky with 20/10 vision.

Go get some XRayBan glasses if you can't.

My whole family, both sides, including cousins wear glasses and I've got 20/15 vision. Maybe I'm adopted or the mailman is my real dad. Actually, that would explain a lot more than my vision...........

I've been -1.75 and -2.00 since grade 6, and that was like 16 years ago.
I've probably spent more time in front of the computer than 99% of the population, and I wear my contacts all day everyday continuously...

I'm -8.50 in both eyes for contacts, which I think is around -10 in glasses. I can say that I have never had perfectly sharp vision with any corrective lenses. With contact lenses I'm frequently in between the prescriptions offered (in high numbers they only come in 0.50 increments) so my optometrist recommends going with the lower prescription.
I also experience the issue with vision being better or worse on a given day. A number of factors which affect this are your amount of sleep, the cleanliness of the contact lens, and how dry your eyes are.
Having poorer vision at night is a regular occurence for me. Especially when driving or at movie theatres, I get very noticeable halos/starbursts/glare/double vision of bright objects against the dark background. I don't know if this happens with both contacts and glasses since I only wear contacts when driving or watching movies.

Was trying to figure out the definition of legally blind, and what I found was that if your best corrected vision is less than 20/200, or -2.50 or so, then you qualify.
Not sure if that's correct though...

Not sure if that's correct though... | Why are you trying to find that out? Are there any benefits? I don't think I'm legally blind but my vision is so bad that my optometrist always tells me I don't have to pay for eye exams since the BC government covers me.
