| Something you might not know
When you are at the bar if you order a shot that has been shaken in ice.. the bartender should ALWAYS pour it in a double shot glass.
I see this so often that the bartender pours it in a single shot glass. Ice melts when it comes in contact with ice. Especially if you shake it.
If you know the bartender does know this then you can also work it to your advantage to get an extra shot for free. Just tell the bartender to pour it in the single shot glasses. If you order 4 shots he/she should only charge you for 3 since honestly the rest is just water anyways.

How would you call him out on this if he doesn't even know himself? "Yo man, because ice melts in alcohol, I think the standard was a double shot glass for ice shaken drinks. Pour me a little more than that"
I also notice you can harsh rip yourself off if you just get 1 or 2 shots from the bar. They pour 2 shots worth of liquor in the HUGE shaker full of ice and shake it like crazy. By the time they pour your shots out, they're so diluted with water than you can barely tell there was alcohol in your shot. However, some of you may notice that if you order a large quantity of shots, like 10 shots, the alcohol seems to be stronger in the shot glass, since the alcohol in the shaker wasn't as diluted as much.

Next time you order some shots tell them you want them in double shot glasses.

Stop drinking girlie shots, order some JD or tequila, this way you won't have to worry your 20% girlie alcohol shot is watered down with a bit of ice, instead you can drink a real 40% shot.

So when they pour 3 ounces of alcohol in with ice and pour it in 3 single shot glasses what happens to the rest?
They chuck it along with the ice.
You are paying for 3 ounces of booze but really what you are getting is 2 ounces plus water.

And Im not saying you are purposely getting ripped off by the bartender.
Most honestly dont even think about it.
Hell I would have never thought about it if my buddy who is a senior bartender at a club downtown didnt mention it to me.

Dude.. it has nothing to do with the percentage of alcohol.
It has everything to do with the fact that you are paying for something that you arent getting.
If you ordered 3 jack and cokes... and the bartender gave you 2 and charged you for 3 I bet you would be a little pissed.
The difference is that in this case most people dont even know they are "missing a drink".

Any bets on penner2k's idea that you'll only get 2 shots of booze and 1 shot of water? That's a ratio of 1 shot of booze to 0.5 shot of water, so there should be 1.5 shots left (1 shot booze, 0.5 shot water) in the shaker using his math.
I'll bet its more like 1/4 of a shot is left in the shaker.
Stop being a drama queen and drink a real man's shot.
