can you guys give me more info on the FTA and OTA?

what antenna's do you use? can the antenna receive both types?

hotjoint 03-25-2011 09:59 AM

I have a friend who does installs for shaw. He hooked me up with the digital package, all hd channels, and 7 channels of my choice like animal planet, nhl network, nba tv etc.. plus free hd pvr and shaw boxes for a year and 3 months of free movies channels for $101 a month. The $101 is with basic phone and extreme I internet. If you want the hook up then message me and i'll hook you up with his #. After my 1 year promo is almost over, I'm just going to call retention and ask for the same deal or else I'll cancel and sign up under my gf's name ;)

Gumby 03-25-2011 10:13 AM

WTF I'm paying $74.95 before taxes for BASIC CABLE (28 channels) and High speed internet.

I think SHAW is also increasing their price in April as well.

Yesterday I got a bill and it said "thanks for being our customer. Oh btw your bill will increase to $78.95 starting April 1st". Mother fuckers. :flamemad:

I'm going to demand for a better deal (in a nice way, been with them since 2004) or else I'm really going to cancel. I'm not even asking for much - just want my bill reduced.

Wow that's a pretty good deal! Were you with Shaw prior to this deal?

ALEX1988 03-25-2011 01:07 PM

just called in and they said that you can cancel for a min of 30days and call back to go on new promotion. when I commented about how i would've thought they would give existing customers promo rates to keep them from cancelling, she basically said they're not concerned with customers doing that. :S someone should hook me up up here in kamloops ;)

oh and telus online agent said i'd be able to get the xbox for free, just talk to agent who calls me back. Talk to agent today and he says with the package i'm getting the free xbox promo is not available to me :S
fuckers lie to me even before I'm a customer

Nightwalker 03-25-2011 07:05 PM

$154.39 taxes in for digital cable, extreme and HD PVR. Plus like $2 for extra channels I'm going to cancel since I never actually watch them. Fucking hate my bill.

Nlkko 03-25-2011 07:29 PM

How is the Telus internet speed wise? I'm paying 30 for Shaw Extreme 15Mbps internet only on promotion and considering switching to Telus.

fta is a term for satellite users where you get a satellite dish, point it to bev and charlie to receive b3LL and d!$h network, get a box, hack it with software and watch as much of the shows they offer...i'm not sure if its still alive but i'm out of it...

ota is off the air meaning you use an antenna be it rabbit ears or more sophisticated designed ones that you either buy or make your self...i usually go to digitalhome.ca for a lot of information on which antennas i can make myself for a few bucks and about an hours time...with that i get most if not all digitals in HD and some from the states...

like i mentioned that there are sacrifices as i don't see sportsnet for example, but that what i have the boxee box for...movies, shows, and streaming stuff...i don't mind the quality...

Yeah I only had high speed internet with shaw though. I was using a voip phone before. My friend basically upgraded my internet to extreme I, hooked me up with the tv package and basic home phone for an extra $50 a month :fullofwin:

smoothie. 04-23-2012 03:49 PM

who's got a good deal now? I need something to work off of.

Does shaw have retentions like rogers/fido?

digital classic and movies 83.95
Double play discount -10
shaw terminal 2.95
cantonese pack 9.95
extreme 62.00

148 + taxes = 166.71, what the fuuuuu

Had a nice discount rate of -20 on the extreme until last month.

Called in today and no promotions.

Fuckers

NLY 04-23-2012 04:03 PM

Spoiler!

Ditto!

I'm paying roughly the same amount. I've tried calling multiple times without any progress.

MTV Cribs 04-23-2012 05:07 PM

I thought I was paying too much for the same thing that was posted on page 1 then I realize the thread is 3 years old. The Fairchild package with internet that I was paying about $70 for is now $105

hillmar 04-23-2012 06:01 PM

Went to Telus and never looked back..... Use to pay 100 bux for just basic cable/ fairchild/ and regular high speed internet.
With telus I got basic/fairchild/and optic internet for 80 bux, can't complain.

lilaznviper 04-23-2012 06:35 PM

i don't think my deal is that good but...

Personal TV + Broadband 50 84.90
Shaw Digital Terminal 2.95
Digital Cable Terminal Promotion -2.95
Cantonese 10.00
Best of HD20.00
Total Current Monthly Services $114.90
TaxHST (Registration 873690457RT) 13.79
Total Current Charges $128.69

TouringTeg 04-24-2012 10:42 AM

Saw on RFD a few months back that Shaw had new TV packages. Lowered my monthly bill for cable and internet.

Personal TV + High Speed 10 59.90 (basic TV with sports package TSN/RSN)
TaxHST (Registration 873690457RT) 7.19

Total Current Charges $67.09

HonestTea 04-24-2012 12:08 PM

FUCK SHAW! Once I see a good deal from Telus, I'm switching ASAP. Their retention department is useless and obviously customer loyalty + tenure means nothing to Shaw.

KeBe 04-24-2012 12:16 PM

Digital home phone
25mbps extreme internet
500gb HD PVR rental
Basic channels + HD Basic
29 bux a month.

It got contacted by outsourced Marketing rep (Shaw's subcontractor).
He offered me the same package as KeBe but I told him I wanted to try out BB50. He checked and said it would be $10 and he can't guarantee it to be accepted by Shaw (They have to send in orders for Shaw to approve).
Long story short, he send in the work order for me and it was accepted.:)

Price is only good for one year BTW.

what is BB50? more channels? nvm.. broadband 50mbps? Is it a significant difference from extreme?

Yeah mine only last for a year too. But he said all i have to do is cancel it and wait a month and get a new promo.

I dont even need the home phone or cable because I stream everything online but I do like the PVR. Its good for recording the news and other sitcoms :D

How the hell do we get on this? Any way of contacting said rep ourselves?? Help! That's amazing...
