$50M lottery ticket sold in Edmonton, but winner has yet to step forward
May, 21, 2009 - 02:47 pm THE CANADIAN PRESS
Bookmark

EDMONTON - There are reports that the winners of the $50-million Lotto 6-49 draw are a group of office workers at ATB Financial - Alberta's Crown-owned bank.

A employee who knows some of the winners says they are 13 people who work in the human resources department at ATB's office in downtown Edmonton.

An ATB spokesman declined comment and referred all calls to the Western Canada Lottery Corporation.

WCLC spokewoman Andrea Marantz also declined to confirm the winners, but has said the winning ticket was purchased in Edmonton.

It's not the first big lotto win by a group of Albertans.

In 2005, a record payout of $54.3 million was shared by 17 workers at a gas plant southeast of Edmonton, who stepped forward after 24 hours of non-stop partying.

The total payout on the winning ticket is $49,851,871.

5 out of 6 numbers doesn't get you 260 grand. I think it's somewhere closer to 2 grand.
although, if it did, vegas would be on you.

5 out 6 including the bonus would get you $282297.50

$3.8 million each, not bad. It would have been nuts if lets say 2 people won or just 1 person.

So 13 people in the HR dept at a bank won...so just for shits and giggles, that's the entire HR dept, and they all quit their job, who would they submit their resignation to?

Or...what would be even better, all 13 that were in submit their resignation to the people in the department that didn't buy into it.

Lotteries are taxes for those who can't do math.

i mean i havent checked it yet, doesnt that mean there are still chances for others to win until everyone checks their tickets?

how does this work>>??>>

every ticket sold, nation wide, gets into database
when numbers are drawn, they can check and see if winning ticket was sold and where it was sold

the payout will not be treated as income but any interest or capital gains made from the payout will be taxed as usual.
