newbie question about ps3.
Futurshop $399 80Gb
$519 160Gb
Which one can play Ps2 games?
Which one has memory card slots?
Which one has 4 USB ?
Which one plays burnt CD, DivX, AVI files?
What is the best version?

both are the same except the 160gb one has a bigger hard drive. the 40gb one was the only one that wouldn't play older games and the other options.

there might be a price drop announced by E3 (which is in a few weeks) so i'd wait for that
as to your question
they can all read burnt CD, divx and avi
none will play ps2 games, none will have card reader, none will have 4 usb ports. If you want those you can only buy second hand versions of either the 60 or 20GB, or either Motorstorm 80GB bundle or the Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle systems. Those systems are somewhat harder to find these days though.

here u go http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_3
all questions answered.
just buy the 80GB for now, u can always upgrade to a bigger harddrive later on and it's easy to do
the best version i would say are the ones with 4USB port, PS2 compatibility, and flash card reader
i've spent many days looking for the 80GB MGS version a year ago and found a new one for sale,
now i dont know if u can find any new or used.
that version is most "feature rich" so it's sought after by many.

Hard drive isnt an issue for me.
I just don't know will 4USB vs 2USB be an issue? or even flash card readers since it already has USB ( i can use USB flash drive)
Rogers Video has 40GB PS3 for $299, but it doesnt come with game or Dual Shock 3. Will it be worth it?

personally i like the dualshock3s since it's a tad bit heavier and the vibration function seems to make u more connected to the game
as for USBs, i rather have 4 than 2, but one could argue u can always use USB hubs and split them which may or may not be a hassle for u
oh and i have never touch the flash card readers as of yet.

none have every had memory card slots as far as I know, however there's a USB adapter you can get
they all have the same codec support (AVI etc)
4 USB really isn't needed anyways, unless you let all 4 controllers batteries die and then want to play a 4 player game
so I'd say get the 80GB, $120 for 80GB of space isn't worth it as I believe any laptop HDD will fit.

4 USB is needed if u play rockband, yes it comes with a hub, but it still works better plugging in individually

wow some people giving false info here.
to make it simple
the machines u can buy NOW IN STORES only have 2 USB ports,
if u want 4, go look on CL for older gens
the machines u can buy NOW IN STORES DOES NOT have flash card readers,
if u want flash card support, go look on CL for older gens
the machines u can buy NOW IN STORES CANNOT PLAY PS2 GAMES,
if u want to have PS2 compatibility, go on CL and look for older gens
ALL generations support the same media codecs
if u want to know which versions came with which features, go to the wiki page i posted up a few posts
if u dont care abt specific features, then just go and buy the 80GB avilable in stores now.
later on if u DO run out of space, u can easily buy a 2nd hand laptop HDD and upgrade it
so far i've only used 20ish GB out of my 80GB and i play alot of games and download demos, so that shows u how much space u need.

underscore ment MEMORY CARD reader, as in PS2 MEMORY CARD, which was never available in any generation PS3.
dai3yuen ment FLASH CARD reader, as in SD, CF, MS etc. which was available in certain generation PS3.

also as a side note, demo's run anywhere from 100MB to maybe 2GB each, most of the ones I have are around 1GB, and save files are pretty small. So unless you start storing all your other media on there, an 80GB is plenty.
our 60GB has about 20ish demos and a couple HD movies on it and it's nowhere near full.
