or can we..

Nope. Gas is only free to bring across the border if it's in your gas tank. If it's in any other container, it's subject to duties and taxes like regular merchandise.

There are line ups during the day... especially closer to the end of the year when everyone buys gifts and stuff and sends them to Point Roberts. I've had to wait about a half hour before. But usually the lineup isn't longer than 10 minutes at the most...

Im pretty sure it is the government that we are being raped by. They just increased the tax last year did they not?

Plus:
- my clothes budget goes down (US shopping)
- my next car is cheaper (imported from US)
- my vacations are cheaper (Hawaii!)

Except for the actual price of gas, gas going up in price is a huge win for anyone with equity investments or that shops south of the border.

I'm not surprised.. this will probably be the trend from now on

Winter = cheap gas
Summer = empty wallets

Winter = cheap gas - Also because 75% of the people wont be able to drive because their cars are too low or they have summer tires so less cars on the road :D

True :p

But some liberal guy said the higher prices arent justified?
I dunno, I need to drive, and I hate our transit system

Gas was only $~0.70/L over the weekend when I was filling up along I5 :mad:

and public healthcare isn't offered along the I5.

There's a reason we pay a lot of taxes here.

skholla 05-22-2009 01:39 PM

true but if you need an operation you get stuck on a waiting list, half of the beds in our hospitals are closed and it takes forever to get help in emergency.

i cut my arm a few years back and it took 6 hours to get it looked at, last year we took a family member to emergency and they didnt get proper attention for over 12 hours, it wasnt until our family doctor called the hospital a few times in the middle of the night to bitch that we finally got service. bc health care sucks balls, i guess thats why its free... oops i mean cheap... its not free unless you live below the poverty line.

working middle class in bc has way too many taxes and insurances to pay, at the end of the month you arent left with much.

My father had throat cancer, and the time from diagnosis to end of treatment was < 6 months. I was actually very impressed.

I have also spent 12 hours in the ER, waiting to have my appendix taken out. When I was waiting 12 hours there was several older patients waiting with only mild symptoms, meanwhile I was doubled over and puking into a bucket. Arg.

The ER problems are mostly due to lack of doctors and people using the ER who shouldn't be there. For instance in Australia you have to pay a fee upfront of $150, if you're found not to need to be at the ER, you don't get the money back, otherwise its refunded.
