Gas prices continue to rise in BC; how much higher will they go?

Well it's back to the same old shit, prices going for the summer.

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Last weekend was the unofficial kick-off to the summer driving season here in B.C., and this Memorial Day long weekend in the U.S. has many Americans thinking about their vacation plans. Is it a coincidence that gas prices have once again crept up over $1.00 a litre in Vancouver? And what can drivers expect in the weeks and months ahead?

One top energy expert says its all a matter of supply and demand, and it's not surprising to see prices rising (around $1.06 a litre this morning in Vancouver--slightly lower in the evening). Alberta energy consultant Steve Fekete says this seems to be the usual time of year when the cost goes up. "We've seen gasoline prices increase, as have crude (oil) prices."

However, federal Liberal consumer affairs critic Dan McTeague says according to his calculations the price hikes just aren't justified. "The fact is it shouldn't be climbing at all. Crude is about $60 a barrel and that's 40 per cent of where it was last year." McTeague blames gas refiners and wholesalers who are raking in huge profits, and he wants more transparency in the national energy market.

If you're looking for a bargain on gas prices, they're always cheaper in the Fraser Valley, and, of course, the USA.

So glad my DD gets 800km/tank.

And yes, the price at the pump is sooooo jacked compared to the price/barrel. There's always some bullshit excuse.

Timpo 05-21-2009 11:06 PM

it's 107.99 cents in victoria now

Presto 05-21-2009 11:08 PM

Yeah, it is pretty much fucked.

Black SC2 05-21-2009 11:19 PM

I'd be surprised if we don't see a buck fifty again this summer.

Harvey Specter 05-21-2009 11:23 PM

I think $1.30 is right around the corner.

maxx 05-21-2009 11:27 PM

....soo when the barrel hits 110 again... will we see $2 a litre?

Gh0stRider 05-21-2009 11:32 PM

wahyinghung 05-21-2009 11:54 PM

Ya, the best way to protest is not to drive!

Wrong! the best way to protest is to buy the biggest pick-up or SUV for your 3+ hour hour daily commute!

why drive when we can simply park around the pumps and rev our engines until we're out of gas,
imagine all the pumps in the city getting blocked off by parked cars...
everyone would be SO done for

Just wait till some pissed off gas station owner calls the cops or pulls out a bat. But if you want to do this at night a gas station owner will have know problems leaving the pumps on for you so you can rev your engine empty your tank refill and repeat.

If you were selling your car and one person offered you $3000 and someone else offered you $5000 who would you sell it to?

Mugen EvOlutioN 05-22-2009 07:37 AM

i was just gonna mention this shit, wat the hell is this crap. Gas back to $1.06 god damn it. crossing the border getting gas seems a bit lame, extra drive plus the wait. than back just to get gas

Presto 05-22-2009 07:41 AM

Go to Pt. Roberts where there's never a line up. Or do what I do, and go through Blaine on a weeknight. The wait is 5 min max. Usually, there's no lineup, and you can pull right up to the booth. If you think going across for only gas is a waste, then do some grocery shopping while you're down there.

rsx 05-22-2009 07:56 AM

too bad we can't just fill barrels of gas and bring it back home =(

or can we..

taylor192 05-22-2009 08:03 AM

I hope it hits $2/L

I'll double my gas bill ($1200 to $2400) yet my investments will soar. Hell I had made $20K off oil stocks in the past 5 years, paying an extra $5K for gas is a reasonable price to pay for the huge gains in my portfolio.

skholla 05-22-2009 08:12 AM

just another example of people being raped by big corps just because we are helpless canadians. even little farm towns in washington have cheaper gas, the prices went up there too, but only to $0.80/L after exchange.

true but on what transit system? the one here is a joke, a big inconvenience, and is too expensive. you couldnt pay most people to ride the crappy translink.

If the USD->CND was at 1.57 like 8 years ago prices would be higher in the US.

Its hard to do comparisons like this, too many other factors.

BTW we're not helpless, I pay < $100/mn now in gas and will be even less during the summer when I commute with my bike. Gas could double in price before I'd start to care.

hotjoint 05-22-2009 08:53 AM

its that time again..... fack...
