It sure does. That's the main reason for most exotics having such low mileage. The owners are scared to drive them too much in the fear of 'what's going to happen.'

This is starting to change a bit more with cars such as the R8, Gallardo, Porsche, and newer Ferrari's.

I am not claiming that people insist on using them as daily drivers but wealthy people value their time more than anything. If something breaks down, it's a pain in the ass to get towed and then deal with fixing the car.

The friend of mine that has the GTR also has 4 other cars and is still concerned with the cost of not only purchase but of maintenance. The only people I could see not interested in cost would be spoiled kids who demand they want the GTR because it's the ultimate bragging rights car for a younger generation.

so what would be defined as racing then...seems kinda ambiguous
going into 90degree corners at 80kph, revving the hell out of it, or exceeding the speed limit? seems like bs to me...

The thing I find disturbing is that even rolling the car on a dyno will void your warranty.

I bet for the 2011 GTR, they will introduce more ways to void your warranty. Maybe driving over 100, or cornering above 0.5G, or buying the damn thing in the first place?

Replacing a tranny is nothing compared to the basic maintenance on other super cars.
Imagine having to pull the engine do to do wahat Ferrari calls a tune up.

http://www.automotiveforums.com/t259033.html

"The words reliability, quality and Ferrari are never uttered in the same sentence. They are NOT reliable and are very expensive to maintain. The newr V-12's have a dredded 10,000 mile "tune-up" that costs $29,000 to do. It is essentially a rebuild of the top end of the car (mainly valvetrain).

my dad has two ferraris a 95, 355 and a 2004 360 and i know most people locally that have ferraris (including a enzo) and when it comes to mantaining them its it can be done anytime they feel that the car needs to have the timing belts cats etc done, my dad needs to get the 30k done on the 355 and it is going to cost around 30k because they are going to have to pull the motor and the replace alot as well as build most of the top end of the motor, regardless of the maintaining there is a guy that has driven his ferrari everyday (456 v12) and he has 150k miles on it what he claims is the key to the car is that he does not drive it like hes on the track everyday and he DOES drive it everyday so the belts dont have the chance to loosen and tighten which can wear them out, so when you speak about reliablility a ferrari is going to cost you a average of 20k a year just to keep it (payments, maintanence) if you cant afford that then im sorry dont buy one

I have many friends who own these cars.

Brad"

I'd say that the car is not designed to withstand the level of performance it is capable of delivering.

Wrong. And once you reach driving age you will agree.

There were 2 GT-R's (US cars) at Pacific Raceways on May 27/09 doing an HPDE. One of them was flat-bedded away supposedly due to tranny problems. Although the other one seemed fine.

Something like 20 GT-R transmissions broke within the first month of release - all of them warranty voided. Would you seriously call that a rare occurrence.

People now are just smart enough to turn off their traction control switch when doing hard launches.
the number i heard was between 1 or 2 % of the cars have had their transmission broken, (i think from edmunds not too sure about that though)
possibly only in the US though.

Also the first month is probably the riskiest to buy, but thats probably when all the punks and rich guys want them, so they'll be the first and can brag about it. But I know guys in HK who really don't give a fuck about warranty and purposely do these hard launches in their cars, and they say that the car smells afterwards, but theres no problem even after several runs.

But to call me a GTR fanboi, you'd be epically wrong, possibly a 911 fanboi, an AMV8 fanboi, but definitely not overpriced jap cars.

Even Ferrari owners worry about their warranty. Just because you can afford a "higher" priced performance car, it doesn't you can stop worrying about whether a repair will be covered under warranty or not.
