50-60% front tint, otherwise 100% stock. Pulled over and ticketed for tint...

How often does that happen?

(Didn't happen to me, but just wanted to know if this scenario could occur, Also assuming not driving erratically or otherwise in an annoying fashion)

I read a lot about ppl getting VI or fines for front tint, even as high as 80%, but I'm wondering if it has anything to do with all the other mods that they've done to the car.

Rikaro 05-27-2009 01:01 PM

front tints are illegal. period.

Titanium 05-27-2009 01:08 PM

Thanks Captain Obvious.

greendb7 05-27-2009 01:10 PM

I had 50% on my fronts for about a year and nothing, until about 2 months ago when the asshole gave me a ticket for it at a roadblock
stupid me was confident he wouldnt notice because he wasnt stopping every car and I've had cops stare me down as I drive by without doing anything so I kept my window up

JesseBlue 05-27-2009 01:25 PM

its the tints...obviously

Euro7r 05-27-2009 01:33 PM

Should roll down your front windows, whenever you see cops haha. That way, they can't see if you have front tint or not, unless they specifically ask you to roll them up.

Timpo 05-27-2009 01:33 PM

front tints are illegal

yes they are. you're not allowed to tint the windows on the front driver and passenger doors.

Nvasion 05-27-2009 01:42 PM

my friends got screwed by the cop telling them to roll up the window lol

Harvey Specter 05-27-2009 01:59 PM

I've had front tints on all my cars, got pulled over 3 times in the last 10 years and 2 tickets were from motorcycle cops. Moto cops in downtown will give you a ticket so stay away from Robson on the weekends because they love to camp out and hand out tickets. Undercovers in Vancouver usually give you a warning. One cop last summer actually tried to peal my tint off and if the cop is a big time prick they can damage or rip the tint so you have to remove it.

Nvasion 05-27-2009 02:03 PM

damn cops/.

Titanium 05-27-2009 02:07 PM

But I'm wondering do they bother with cars that are otherwise completely STOCK?

I always had the impression that cops like to target obviously modded cars, but would leave stock-looking cars alone. Kinda like clear corners, in my experience they'll ignore you if that's the only thing you got.

Cops target cars breaking the law.

Well, it just happens less to people with stock car since they garner less attention, but if it is illegal, it is a cop's job to give out the tickets.

Exactly.

If your tint is really dark and you can't see the driver or passenger, you'll get pulled over 100% if a cop sees you. If you have a very light tint and you can see the driver and passenger, most cops will not pull you over.

Can you be more specific and less of an asshole?

Edit: In case you still want to be a douch bag, here is the section that people usually ask questions about tints. You can ask the people who issues these tickets.

If it's illegal and the officer has nothing more pressing to do, then yes.... he will ticket you, regardless of the fact that the car may or may not be modified in any other way. Obviously modified cars will attract more attention, partially due to the fact that they don't blend in like most stock cars, but don't let that knowledge fool you into thinking that you're safe with front tint.

And before you insult any other members attempting to answer you with the proper answer (such as taylor), lose the attitude.

shenmecar 05-27-2009 04:16 PM

im pretty sure my teacher said you could pay an extra amount when u buy insurance to get front tint legal. I havent confirmed on that, dunno if he was bsing

yeah that's total bs.

Whenever I see a car with front tinted windows the first thing that comes to mind is that the driver is a douche who has something to hide.

One 05-27-2009 04:44 PM

It is also a safety issue for the officers.
As they walk up to your window from behind your vehicle, they want to make sure you don't have a gun pointed at them. This is also why they tell you to put ur hands on steering wheel.

Law enforcers' safety comes first, your front-tint-cool-factor comes second.

Titanium 05-27-2009 05:13 PM

nevermind. forget i asked. close the thread pls. thanks.

AVS_Racing 05-27-2009 05:44 PM

The OP asked people who has very light front tints with no mods if they get hassled by cops strictly for the front tint, knowing full well

1) it is illegal, and
2) yes cops CAN ticket you for anything illegal.

Then the RS members delivered with the standard "no help" replies we've all come to love so much. Yes, the poster's later posts might be a bit sarcastic. But really, after reading some of the replies, I don't think it's completely unwarranted.

As for posting in the police forum, why? He already knows it's illegal. So it's not a legality question. Plus he would get the same people posting the replies there. And what are the officers there going to say really? "Yes, it's illegal, but we won't enforce it if your car is otherwise stock."?

I had a cop on the opposite side of a boulevard writing someone else a ticket, see my car in traffic "crawling", proceed to turn around and chase me down for absolutely nothing else but front tint (35% all around). But then, my car was not "otherwise stock", so probably doesn't help the OP.

Im pretty sure the no help replies are a response to a very vague question regarding tint and the police patterns of ticketing. Also, he could be more civil about the responses but thats just me
