I always thought it was the current rate plus 2%.

asian_XL 06-03-2009 09:17 AM

Durrann1984 06-03-2009 10:58 AM

I usually check vbce.ca's site. They probably provide the best rate in town, and they actually provide you the buy AND sell rate, rather than the mid rate that sites like XE show you. You won't be able to get that rate if you walked into your local bank and asked to buy at that rate.

I"ve noticed my bank charges 1c on top of the VBCE rate. (BMO)

woob 06-03-2009 01:38 PM

Paypal raped me last week when I ordered my longboard...

They both charge you a USD to CAD conversion fee in the exchange rate, I haven't paid too close attention but I think the paypal exchange rates are slightly better than my CIBC Visa's.

yadoh 06-03-2009 09:02 PM

it's better to use paypal
they give u a better exchange rate

CRS 06-03-2009 09:16 PM

Paypal had a pretty terrible currency converter iirc.

yadoh 06-03-2009 09:33 PM

it's terrible but still better than CC

paypal has an option to either let them do the conversion or your CC.
i tried it with CC and it was 1.5-2 cents higher than paypal.

I found it to be the other way. I got a better rate from my credit card.
