Canadian dollar

So I see that the CAD is 91 cents give or take. Who is gonna buy performance parts in the US for cheaper that buying here with overinflated prices. For example, on my SE-R Sentra, I was going to buy a stillen front lip at Garage 5, they wanted 320 bucks direct from Stillen, what the fuck? on stillen website it's 206 bucks with exchange and duties it be less than 300, and I ship it over to Ship Happens, free ground shipping.

Have you tried any other shops around the GVA?
Prices can vary quite a bit

I just bought myself an Alpinestar S-MX Bionic Vest :D
Can't wait to get it.. woot.

Canadian companies are always slow to adjust for the dollar.

Sometimes even with the weak CDN dollar buying in the US and shipping it over is cheaper than buying in Canada.

I wast thinking about ordering a lip spoiler from the states and shipping it to Pt. Roberts for pickup. Do you guys know what they might charge me at the border for a spoiler? Any help would be appreciated.

If it's made in US or Mexico, then it's under NAFTA dn u'll get charged only GST & PST. Made anywhere else, it'll be duty + GST/PST

BlackV62K2 05-29-2009 01:33 PM

The savings would have to justify ordering from the States. If it's under $50, I'll just get it locally. Saves me the hassle of potential lost/damage parts (which has happened a few times to me). Also brokerage fee will f#@k you up the ass.

I just ordered a prepainted aerolip for my 335i but the dollar needs to hit par so I can stack up on some US dollaz.

Order it painted, then just slap it on and drive back. Make sure you have an excuse for being there though!

Otherwise car parts are 6% duty plus sales taxes.

taylor192 05-29-2009 01:45 PM

Clothes and shoes are much better deals in the US. With the dollar nearing par, I won't be shopping in the malls here.

Gumby 05-29-2009 02:15 PM

Keep in mind, the prices of products in Canada are not determined by the exchange rate alone.

Of course, I buy my stuff in the US whenever possible. :)

sas 05-29-2009 02:24 PM

It is very unreasonable to think that prices will adjust that quickly; they are sticky. And companies like G5 etc insert any name really, need to make a profit as well.

Having said that, I don't think I have ever purchased any car parts new here. The price difference is just insane, especially wheels and tires.

!SG 05-29-2009 03:56 PM

its a front lip, its not the average $40 bucks for shipping! shipping goes by box size, and the box they use to ship a front lip is HUGE!

320 bucks, sounds normal to me for a front lip. so ur bitching that G5 wants to make 20 bucks off you???????

I think it just has to be complete stock when you return it at the end of the lease. The aero lip is easily removable so it probably not an issue :)

No, I am bitching at the prices overall reletave to canadian pricing, I am just using G5 as an example because of my recent visit. If you want price gouging, go and check out RPI Equipped.

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The Canadian dollar keeps climbing - ending the day at 91.6 cents US, the highest it's been since early last October. That means bargain hunters might start crossing the border this weekend hoping to get a good deal.

woohoo
