Yeah maybe this suck it in, punish later isn't doing it. We should be legally allowed to bring "justice" to asshole bus drivers. Our bus system is already so hard to use (i dunno i'm from HK way easier) and these guys giving us a hard time only makes our lives more difficult. It's actually kinda rare to see nice drivers, maybe okay ones, but genuinely nice people aren't common

JSALES 05-30-2009 12:21 AM

some bus drivers drive like crazy mother fuckers too and have to slam on the brakes when coming to a red light causing the people standing to hit other people and etc..

Any idea what translink did? I mean I wanna see her suffer, maybe decrease her pay or something so she'll be more of a bitch, I want something to justify not beating the crap out of her at the moment and staying calm. I want compensation, and I want her to feel the pain!!! muahahahahha

Well there's definitely nothing you can do that will decrease her pay, because they are unionized. But if you explain your situation I'm sure they will at least talk to her about it and maybe make her take some cultural awareness classes? It sounds like a joke, but in all seriousness, I think they will follow up on a driver who is being racist or prejudice in any way.

I think my friend said they suspended the driver for a period of time, couple days. I'll have to ask her again though.

It's best to have the number on the inside of the bus. I always thought it was the number outside in the little black box, but it's not. They can identify the driver easier if you have the date, time of day and the exact bus number.

My uncle is a bus driver. He hates his job so much, half the time be bullshits like he has the flu or something so he skip work and stay home. He said it's too stresful and has to deal with a lot of rude people all day and night long. He would love to find a another job but the man has no education, it's drive the bus or go back to driving a taxi.

I think you see that right here.

There's the OP talking all big about punishment for a slight. Of course we only hear one half of the story. Grow the FUCK up, shut the FUCK up and deal.

Bus drivers are human and many of them only take some much idiocy in a day.

There are also the jerks that you KNOW heard people yell out "back-door!" when they've left the bus stop too quick and someone needs to get off, but still continue to floor it until the next step.
This sucks, but I am guessing that this may have something to do with liability.

PS - has anyone here actually thanked the bus driver as they've got off? I took the bus for more than ten years and I almost always thanked the driver when leaving. I was almost always the only one.

!Tigger 05-30-2009 01:01 AM

i had some driver yell at me for waiting at the bus stop... i was trying to take the 130 and he was driving the 123....

he opened the door and said, Getting on??
i said no
then he said NO FUCKING LOITERING and drove away...

i had the biggest what the fuck face on when he said that

Harvey Specter 05-30-2009 01:05 AM

I would imagine that all bus drivers take quite a bit of abuse daily and on top of that they still have to worry about driving and safety of all the passengers on their bus so I'm not too surprised with the rage some drivers have. I guess someone would argue and say if you can't handle the pressure, find another job but if it was only that easy.....

ilvtofu 05-30-2009 08:04 AM

lol culture awareness classes... not really mad that she was semi-racist, because thats just my assumption, but the fact the she swore and was extremely rude talking to me.
Suspension sounds good, thats a good couple hundred bucks. hehe...

to one of the above comments, i actually walked all the way from the back to the front drivers door (it was one of those bendy busses) just to say thank you to that driver, just to be sarcastic and cheeky. She didn't even look at me

Qmx323 05-30-2009 08:11 AM

you should set your cell phone to record everytime you're about to get on the bus.

RFlush 05-30-2009 08:37 AM

Anyone ever take the 99 B-Line (UBC) and encounter the awesome bus driver who goes on the intercom and tells people that the next stop has so and so restaurants and where to buy coffee at that stop. When he pulls out he's always like "Alright guys, hold on, and here we go!".

Such a nice guy.

ChaKo 05-30-2009 09:30 AM

i like the bus drivers who actually thank you for letting them through for a lane change.

ilvtofu 05-30-2009 09:41 AM

I like the bus drivers that take up one and a half lanes cos they're afraid to stick to the curb :) ... on a one lane street

me: wtf
driver: looks clearly at my student ID and says next time show your student ID more clearly
me: fuk you asshole in my head of course

some bus drivers are actually funny too
had one guy that kept telling jokes and stuff the whole bus ride

"So there was this fat fuck and this ni..."

My buddy ran into an asshole bus driver the other night. Said he and his friends got on after a night of alcoholic beverages (except for him) and the bus driver started swearing at them. They were all standing up and the bus driver slammed on the brakes at their stop almost throwing them into the poles and knocking out their teeth. Buddy went up to the driver to question her and she started telling him off.

End result: He emailed translink the bus information and this ordeal.

Ikkaku 05-30-2009 09:59 AM

:lol I had this angry bus driver driving the 41. He barely made any stops despite people standing at the bus stops. Needless to say, it was the quickest I've ever gotten to Joyce station on public transit.

so today, i decide to chill in DT with a couple of friends,
at around 5:30 when we were leaving, I didn't really wanna take the bus, but since my friend was going to bus neways, i go with her on the 491? which ends up in richmond somewhere, but I plan to get off on Granville and broadway around chapters.

So I pull out my $1.75 before the bus comes, and i'm one of the few ppl who need to use coins, but yeah... my friend had a bus pass so she was fine, but i put in my coins, and she's about to press the print button, and she pauses for a sec, looks at me from bottom to top, and asks me where i'm going,
(possibly assuming i'm going to richmond cos i'm azn?) my friend says richmond, and so she asks me to pay for the transfer, and I'm like no, i'm just taking the bus across the bridge to granville, and shes like "no, you just say richmond!" and finally prints my ticket, and as i take it she goes "fucking people... (and muttering some other shit)"

First off even if i was going to richmond with my friend,
apparently some guy told me that past 6 you don't need to pay the transfer, so by the time we get to richmond it would be past 6, so she can say shit.

I've been bussing occasionally for the past 3 years or so, and I've never met a driver as rude as her. Should've written down her name and everything, but I know around what time i got on and that bus only comes once every 15 mins, so i can probably narrow it down if I have to.

So i'm just wondering, whats the rudest a bus driver has been to you?

You should have pulled out a Glock, pointed it in her face, and said "that's where you wrong, muthafucka."

ilvtofu 05-30-2009 11:04 AM

we have a close family friend who was on the bus and the driver slammed on the brakes or something and she hit one of those poles and her face got messed up, after a couple of years she's looking fine now but it took a while, and she did manage to sue translink but I don't think she made much because of all the legal and medical fees

KuSouL 05-30-2009 11:15 AM

one of the bus drivers from lonsdale quay to capilano U also does the bus tour guide thing

funny

when i was young took bus quite often and i find bus drivers are usually ok?
the ones pissed are usually because they've had some asshole passenger
after a long day dealing with (generally asshole highschool kids) kinda understandable?

haha iunno heard a lot of people complain about bus drivers tho

I always thank the drivers who haven't been assholes, and I usually get a "Your Welcome" or "Have a nice day" in return.

ryany 05-30-2009 11:45 AM

^ hahahaha that would have been epic

I used to see that a lot when i'd be taking the 16 bus home from school and all the old chinese people wouldn't be able to get off at 1st Ave & Renfrew

twitchyzero 05-30-2009 02:58 PM

i love the fucking dickwads that miss your stop and drops you off at the next stop without saying sorry. ugh pay attention

I even said "excuse me, you missed my stop" when the bus drove by after a few metres.

The cool ones are the drivers that make jokes and funny comments on the PA.

AsBannedAsItGets 05-30-2009 04:30 PM

I'm not defending the bus drivers but sometimes they deal with nut cases while others like everyone else maybe just had a bad day. There's always an underlying issue which we do not know about that gets forgotten. It is true that there are genuine dickwads but for the most part I'd like to assume they are far and few.

StylinRed 05-30-2009 05:12 PM

ive only encountered 1 crazy bus driver, who wouldnt wait till u got on the bus and started driving.. and not just drive but speed like he was living out his F1 fantasies

other than that everyones been courteous as hell... even when a homeless person gets on the bus with no money the driver will take them a few stops before saying sorry thats as far as they'll take them

but i havent been on a bus in like 12years

I had a bus driver get out and walk across to the Mcdonalds across the street. She left the keys in the ignition for a good 15-20 minutes while she paced over there and got her late night fix.

Everyone on the bus was pissed! She got an earfull when she got back. Hahaha!

I've also had some pretty cool bus drivers though, like the aforementioned 99B-Line guy. I like how he pokes fun @ the students during exam time.
