| help, computer died!!!!!
Last night, I was sitting in front of computer, playing some WC3/Dota, I suddenly smell something burning. It smell like burning plastic if u know what i mean.
Within the next 5 mins, My computer just turned off in the middle of my game.
I opened up the case and can smell the strong odor of that burning plastic, but i wasnt able to locate.
I am afraid to turn the computer back on. Anyone have any suggestions as to what happened , where to look for the problem, or what to replace?
I am thinking, video card?, power supply, motherboard,...etc
My computer is bone stock (non-overclocked), used daily for browsing web most of the time. I don't turn off computer ever, leave it on all day long for as long as i owned it

I would say in order of likelihood, power supply is first, motherboard is second.
Take a sniff at the power supply and see if the odour is especially strong.

Yeah check Power supply, then check mobo ( look for burns or poped caps). Also you might want to make sure your hard drive didnt get fried... I had an old amd machine that I was basically using as a kids comp... Finally took its last day and burn the ps, mobo, cpu and my hard drive.. Luckily It only burnt my hard drives chip and I had an exact same hard drive but dead so I just switched chips and it worked again...

most likely burnt the vid card or cpu, with the weather getting warmmer each day, it'll get harder for the fans to keep up, and most likely the heatsinks cloged with dust. thus overheated and burnt the chips.

Pop in another PSU, and branch out from there. Next up would be the motherboard if the PSU is fine. Just smell it like Invisible said, and if there's a strong smell, chances are the PSU burnt. I hope your PSU isn't a POS either since it could potentially overload.

grab a power supply tester and test your power supply first.

^ why bother? replace the PS, if it works after, great. if not, return the new one and put the old one back in.
