| Travel within Asia
Hey guys,
I'm planning to do a summer trip within Asia and need some recommendations on the cheapest way to get around.
I'm going from Vancouver --> Manila --> Tokyo --> Phuket, Thailand --> Vancouver..
On Expedia, when I go Van/Man/Tok/Van, its $1600~. However, when I add in Phuket, the total costs doubles to $3200~.
Is there a better website or such where I can get a deal from travelling within these places in the span of a month?
Any advice is appreciated..thanks.

You may want to book Phuket from Asia as it may be cheaper.
When we wanted to go to Thailand, we went to HK and book the trip at HongThai travel agency. I know you are in Japan, but you should equally find cheap flights to Phuket.
Regardless, it looks like you are going to have an awesome Asia trip. Enjoy.

So should I just book a ticket for:
Van to Phils
Phils to Tokyo
Phuket to Van
And book Tokyo to Phuket when I'm in Japan?

On average, getting flights from an asian country to another asian counter is cheaper.
Although, it isn't by very much at times.

seriously dont goto phuket. its a shit hole.
goto better beaches.
best in thailand i would say is ko phi phi or if you want a shitty beach, at least goto ko pha ngan, they have the full moon party which is like 10k drunk foriegners, thai girls, and a couple drag queens dancing till the morning.
also you turn around and u see like 30 people pissing into the beach at any given time hahah.
ahh good times.
here's some pics. but seriously dont do phuket.
this is ko phi phi don/leh - a island that has no roads, motorcycles, what so ever. completely walkable. one of the most beautiful beaches in thailand imho.
first two pictures taken from my bungalo, 30 bucks. a bungalow that fit two, i was in it alone tho.
ko pha ngan - really touristy but it has the full moon paryt, google it. lots of nice beaches.
this is outside my bungalow, i cant remember i paid like 50 bucks for 3 or 4 nights between 4 people. literally i walked out and the beach was there haha.
This is hat patong @ phuket. Crap imho.
Why there is a car on the beach, i don't know.
bonus ko phi phi don video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43wentwMfoY
i went backpacking for rougly 7 months, you can probably visit two beaches in thailand. go for the ko phangan (full moon party - google it) and ko phi phi.
ko phangan is a shit hole as well but the full moon party is fun

Wow, that's crazy..
lol @ phuket
I'd book from Van --> asia, and then seperate trip. I usually always do that, and it ends up 300-500 cheaper for the round trip that i do every now and then which is
Van --> Japan --> HK --> TW --> Manila --> Home

but theres just tons of ladyboys all over the place in general, theyre accepted in society there. i believe they go into teh girls washrooms. this guy i met while i was traveling got drunk, started dancing with a ladyboy (not knowing she was a ladyboy) and she stole his camera lol. this was at the full moon party.
i went to some strip club, there was some fat chick she had like a straw? and she was sucking up rings with it and putting the rings on a bottle.
in my opinion, any thai chick you see, just imagine her bald first. if she could pass as a guy, she's probably a guy haha.
edit: second one in the pic has a penis
edit2: if you stop by bangkok which u most likely will, ir ecommend going to vertigo bar/restaurant.

Awesome. Thanks for the info.
There are better places to stay in Thailand, but I'm going to Phuket for 2 weeks of volunteer work to build two homes with Habitat for Humanity...

also book within travel agencies there as the websites don't show all the flights.
Flights within asia should be 50-70 dollars.
I'd check out peneng island in malysia.

My recommendation for the first time is to go to the beaches.. There are lots of white sand beaches (raked every morning) but you do wnat to go to an island atleast...
Food their is awesome!!!! I spent 3 weeks in Thailand and everyday I had an Ice coffee (hello kitty cup) (best ice coffee is "BLACK MOUNTAIN" a little more $$ then the regulars but worth it) and Crab fried rice (cow pat boo).. If you dont order crab fried rice, i will be disapointed.... Also if you have a chance buy Durian chips.. They are nothing like you can ever think, even try the real durian fruit 100X better than vancouver.. Plus if you buy the chips (make sure they are the fried ones that acctually look like chips, there a like 3 diff varieties)... Also you cant go wrong with Morning Glory, most favorite veggie dish...
I would honestly try the scuba diving or snorkling.. ( unfortunatly with my experince my GF stepped on a sea urchin 30 secs from gettign into the water)..
Bangkok- If you get a chance to go here, all it is, is shopping. If you dont plan to shop dont bother to go to bangkok.. If you do plan to shop.. I recommend 3 malls which are all located 10mins walk of eachother in the middle of bangkok (siam square, transit station). MBK has shitloads of electronics tones of kiosks with cell phones and more... Platinum for shopping, this place is basically all locals selling their own fashion.. My GF says its basically walking into 50 diffrent aritzia stores and they bargain too 3 of anything for $10CAD...
Another thing to remember, Thai people dont like it when you touch their merchandise and dont buy anything... Most dont say anything, but if you ever get a angry one, just walk away....
If you really do get a chance visit the elephant show @ Nong Nooch (youtube it lots of videos)... Tranny shows are at alcazar and a few other places but alcazar is more entertaining... Other places are just tranny competitions.. where alcazar is all music entertainment from diffrent regions.. When i was there they did this vietnamese song, and I guess there were tonnes of Viets and the place was just crazy loud like a concert.. LOL
There is soo much to talk about thailand, this is all imma put now since i'm at work..

I'm just adding a bunch of stuff from a huge email I sent to my cousin when she went to thailand...
For food, if you dont plan to eat mcdonalds everyday.. I recommend for lunch you go to the malls Ie. Lotus, MBK, Platnum... Remember most malls food courts are better than in canada.... We always have lunch in the food courts and diner in the restaurants...
At food courts you must buy food cards (usually put around 100baht/ $3CAD) you will get you money back when you return the cards. The food stalls dont deal with money its unsanitary for them..... You can get a plate of duck on rice for $1, I usually order 2-3 plates...LOL..
Anything Imported will be $$$ just one thing to take note of...
BRING LOTS OF SUNTAN LOTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We ran our the first week and its almost $20 a can of suntan lotion (IMPORT!!!!!)
Also when you tip people remember its not a thai custom to tip, but they will wait for one because u are a tourist.. I recommend around 40baht and for hotel people depending on where u live 20- 40 baht.
Try to go to a couple temples, there is 1 near pattaya (terracotta soldiers) and there is also a buddah mountain near there....
The best thai temple to go to is in Chantabury, again 2 hours out of Rayong.but for example the year in thailand is 2553 and they have items there from year 1..
As for currency everything you buy you should divide by 30 ex. 100baht is $3: 1000baht $30
Food at malls roughly cost under 100baht a plate(Great food in malls) ie Lotus/food court eat the duck on rice its great and only 60baht a plate
Try M.K its a hot pot place.
When in thailand you will notice that a lot of restaurants are located in ppls lots/homes... Up to you whether you would like to eat there
Non tourist Islands- Koh Somet or Koh Khut I havent been to Koh Khut but my dad said its the better one to go to, we went to Koh Somet becuase it was the only island open during our summer (their rainy season). Still a good island and very nice (all islands)
Last time I was in Thailand the first night we were staying in some dinky $12 a night hotel... Dad came in the room the next day and says he just bought a waterfront house... LOL, this made my whole trip..
I also have Agents in thailand if you need any hotels booked or anything... I can get you rooms for like $12 a night depending on where you want to stay...

Try booking with Air Asia or Tiger airways, Nok Air, Jet Star
Most are based out of Malaysia though but I beleive some of them do fly out of Japan. I think Air Asia does. You can fly to KL then go up to Phuket or Koh Phangan which I recommend more. I think from KL to phuket is around $20 by air and by train. Im headed to Thailand on Saturday .. Finally goodbye Vietnam
