rav4 vs crv

so my dad wants the change his old 95 dodge caravan for another car but is between a rav4 and a crv
anything wrong with any of these cars?

i think the rav4 just had a facelift for the 2009 versions but im not sure about the crv since its been out for awhile and don't want to buy a 2009 model and next year they do a facelift for it

and does anyone know how the scrape it program works?

or instead of the scrape it program, should we sell it since it only has about 104xxx km on the car

so update:

so still didnt get the car yet since my dad has second thoughts about the rav4 and the swing back trunk that if he ever carried wood or other long items it wouldn't work

been looking at the forester PZEV and it looks good for the price

also been looking at the hyundai tucson GL V6 4WD but not sure about hyundai's reliablity

and the nissan rogue SL AWD

any idea how much bargining room there is for these companies??

ctsport 06-07-2009 04:55 PM

I have friends and relatives that have both and I like the CRV a lot more. (both 4 cylinder models)

sexyaccord 06-07-2009 05:34 PM

use the scrap it program

lilaznviper 06-07-2009 06:41 PM

damn i need 12 months of insurance papers... and i think my dad threw them away already since we just renewed the insurance for the car in march

scrap it program, get back 1250 dollars

is there a way where i can get evidence of my dad insuring the vechicle last year?

orange7 06-07-2009 07:03 PM

lol..
not trying to diss dodge chrysler, but you'd get more from scrapping the metal on wheels than selling it.

Mananetwork 06-07-2009 07:10 PM

Scrap the Chinese Recreational Vehicle, go with the RAv4

orange7 06-07-2009 07:21 PM

Rav4 awd

i don't think there is an awd version for the crv

tiger_handheld 06-07-2009 07:31 PM

CRV - Trusted name band, Honda Quality!

Rav4 - Toyota, building a better tomorrow.

It's your call ...

carmaniac 06-07-2009 07:41 PM

Mitsubishi Outlander!

10 year powertrain warranty!

Razr 06-07-2009 08:13 PM

I'd go for the RAV4 ...I think it sits a bit higher than the CRV and its so maneouvarable
and if you can get the V6 version!

lilaznviper 06-07-2009 08:17 PM

mits and mazda is two types of cars my dad will never go near aha not sure why though

we been siding with the rav4 instead of the crv since its cheaper but one thing is that the toyota doesnt have the 4wd always on and only on when its needed but im not sure if the crv has the same function but im sure that when it says real time 4wd it means that its always 4wd?

is it worth it for $4000 more to go up a package from basic to sport for the rav4
basic $32000
sport $36000

they only difference i see is that wheels are different and the door handles look butt ugly when the car color is not black

anti-vip 06-07-2009 08:34 PM

crv = VTAAAKKK

Edison_Chen 06-07-2009 09:36 PM

RAV4 ftw.

Depending how much you are looking to spend. V6>I4. The limited model for the RAV4 is about 35 ish before taxes. Plus you get the touch start on the limited model

As for you previous insurance, if you do not have the old papers, then you need to contact ICBC to get them to reprint them for you. However they will charge you a small fee

ilvtofu 06-07-2009 09:51 PM

If you get the Rav 4 4 cylinder, hopefully the difference in gas mileage with the caravan will be enough that you can get $2500 rebate,
The scrap it is on top of your trade in, so you get the value from the dealer ($1000?!?!?!) lol caravans aren't worth shit used.

But IMO get the rav 4 4 cyl, because the engine has enough power and isn't noisy, not saying the V6 isn't great but the 4 is fast enough and gets better mileage,
Also Rav4 has better 4wd for the snow and I think the diff can lock, but everyone knows the Rav4 has better 4wd, even the honda salesman will tell you that.

The Rav4 is getting old though, so maybe look at the Venza, which is basically the new Rav4, it's not as cool or agressive but It's got a lot of practicality going for it, and it's new, basically a rebadged RX350,

CRV is just POS IMO, the interior feels sloppy, looks C-Lai, and awd sucks,

beater240 06-07-2009 09:59 PM

^ Goodluck finding a V6 Venza though. I tried to get one recently, but it was like a 6 month wait period. Also, compared to the Rav4, its quite slow b/c of the weight.

But to the OP's question, Rav4 vs. Crv, the Rav4 is way more fun to drive with the V6. I guess as the rednecks say, there's no replacement for displacement.

Shun Izaki 06-07-2009 10:42 PM

The CRV is more peppy and definitely more "sporty".

But nothing like the rav4's awesome comfort + torque.

smk 06-08-2009 12:20 AM

RAV4 is very comfortable and has lots of power (V6)! IMO the looks is also better than the CR-V

!Aznboi128 06-08-2009 12:38 AM

CRV cause that k24 has a lot of potenial

orange7 06-08-2009 01:08 AM

since the crv is having a facelift next year (like you said), why not wait till next year and then decide?

cause right now you're comparing a newer model to a model that has been around for a while. kinda unfair IMO

YK86 06-08-2009 02:15 AM

A family friend just bought a 2010 RAV4 Sport V6. I think he said he paid $35,000 including taxes and stuff. I was quite impressed even though I've never really been a fan of the older RAV4's. The new design looks much much better than the previous ones. Even had a reverse cam (with a part of the rear view mirror acting as the monitor) which is a nice little feature. He lives in North Van but mentioned going up the cut after the Iron Worker's bridge with his family of 4 and heavy luggage is no problem at all.

And do what with it in a CRV? Lower it add rims and add a spoiler?

Buck for buck and pound for pound, I would not go back to a CRV. My cousin owns one and I own a V6 Rav4. Power wise, even just cruising around town, the Rav. I am not sure what model the CRV was though. So it might not be a fair comparison.

My Rav seats 7. And when you seat 7 people you need all that torque.

And boy, does it have torque!

A fully modified screaming hi-revving K24 probably isn't what the OP's father wants in an SUV. :p

My parents have shopped around for mini-SUVs for the past few years, so I'll throw in a few extra pointers about those two cars. Something your dad may look out for is the way the door opens on the Rav-4. It opens like a door, unlike the gated hatch like the CR-V and your Caravan currently have. That's an issue for my mom as she prefers the mini-van style hatch door for clearance issues and fitting more groceries in, haha. If you are looking to buy the top of the line for the CR-V, there is no v6 option. Personally, that kind of bugs me since you are paying around 40g for the vehicle, and the engine choice is exactly identical to the cheapest trim.

ilvtofu 06-08-2009 07:21 AM

A base-ish (sport?) Rav4 V6 is your best bet because for the same price you don't get very much in the CRV.

Adsdeman 06-08-2009 07:58 AM

Y not go with a forester, more ground clearance than both!! Better awd system too

!Aznboi128 06-08-2009 08:18 AM

^ that's actually true

and the forester handles like a dream cause its based of the wrx, I'm not sure but if there is still that 2.5 turbo avaliable GET IT!
