wtf pricing by futureshop? Sony Bravia 32" XBR9 Futureshop $1399.99 http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...0121979&catid= Best Buy USA $844.99 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1218062424675 Now you might say oh the bestbuy says its on sale though BUT that $845 price is also what its being sold for at other retailers in the USA amazon, bhphoto (who ship to canada btw and with shipping is still a 2-300 cheaper than buying the set up here) Now you might also say that the dollar only started going up recently blah blah blah, BUT other TV's such as the LG32LH40 is roughly the same price in Canada and the USA ($899.99) the lg32 and 32xbr9 are both new models so Canadian dollar shouldn't be relevant (other examples are also available) SO anyway WTF futureshop (not just futureshop i think the sony store is the same but they've always been more expensive so i didnt count them) anyway i was looking for a tv as a gift and just couldn't get over the pricing |
who cares? most things are more expensive in canada than in the us. If it's cheaper buying in the states, then by it from there. |
are you comparing a consumer electronic market open to a population of 200 million with one that's opened to only 30million? |

note that US models are not qualified for warranty services in Canada |

Sony store is the biggest rip off. I find that the smaller, asian owned electronic stores, will give you the best deals for TVs or as they call it "cash only" price. |

the price diff is still -_- |
its prob like 5$ in china, why dont you buy it there? |
^^^^ if it was id buy a tonne of them but they aren't cheap there |
we all know that big box stores markup thier prices like crazy |
Welcome to Canada. Most Canadian divisions of large mfgs will not warrant electronics imported from the US, but you can try for warranty service across the border. Also, doing some math makes for interesting numbers: FS $ 1400 * 1.11 (taxes) = $1554 BB USA $ 845 * 1.17 (taxes and duty) / 0.91 (exchange) = $1086 You're almost halfway to buying a brand new replacement if your US-bought model craps out and you can't get warranty service. |
Check out Newegg and Zipzoomfly's prices in terms of most electronics and they are even better than Bestbuy. Canadian consumers paying higher prices than U.S consumers should not be a surprise to anyone. |
last thing you want to do is no warranty on a TV.... |
you are complaining about this now? where were you couple of years ago |
I thought SONY offers 1 year global warranty which means doesnt matter where u buy it from. |
if u wanna get flat screen tv, get sharp aquous... |
You guys seem to forget that most stuff we buy in Canada actually gets shipped up to the States first then shipped to Canada. So when stuffed purchased in U.S. dollars gets shipped up here from U.S. we have to pay tarriffs and other misc taxes hence why our landed cost to distributors/wholesalers/retailers in canada costs us more. Canadians aren't exactly known to be an economic super power. Our dollar tends to suck most of the time. Most distributors I know buy all their stock in USD. The misconception that big box electronic stores rip you off is pretty far off. I'd say almost everything they sell makes under 20% of profit margin. Sure there are kickbacks from manufacturers and stuff, but generally the manufacturers set the MSRP. So when you say big box chains "rip you off" is kind of unfair. I'm quite anti big box stores myself, but I definately don't think they rip you off. It's not like Canadian retailers MAKE MORE MONEY selling it to consumers at higher MSRP's. If anything it's the Government ripping you off. Taxing your income, then taxing everything you buy, then taxing the people selling the things you buy. ^^ Either way, it's the manufacturers not the retailers that set the pricing. Store do their usual markup on top of their cost. If the manufacturer sets the cost higher, then the MSRP is higher. If they set it lower, then the MSRP is lower. |
do they still have that "show us the same thing for cheaper at another store and we'll match the price" thing? If so, then they rip off some and come off like a hero for others. Fuckers. |
its not just TVs man.. do you realli see people buying auto parts here either? USA just got a large market. thats why the prices are alot lower |
buy samsung..they sell the most lcd tvs in the world. |
Shouldnt this be common sense by now? |
