Dubai...not many nice cars as I thought

This SLR is probably the best I have spotted for the entire week (pic taken at Atlantis)...the car is very dirty and the emblem got stolen
http://xs940.xs.to/xs940/09240/dsc00165599.jpg

Some other cool cars I have spotted on the road and at Mall of Emirates...
- Gold-chromed Lexus LS460 (very dirty)
- White CL65
- Blue Bentley Continental GTC Convertible
- Yellow and Blue Gallardo Spyder
- Red Hamann Ferrari 599GT
- few white Phantoms

99.99% of the cars are Toyota Camry, Landcruiser, Yaris sedan, Innova, Previa, Prado, FJ cruiser, some hyundai, A LOT OF Range Rover HST, Jeep Wrangler, some Alfa Romeo and Holden, Chevrolet Avalanche.

gas is only $0.40 per litre there, so Landcruiser and Avalanche are like civic and corolla in vancouver...

twitchyzero 06-14-2009 08:48 AM

ilvtofu 06-14-2009 08:59 AM

Jackwimmer 06-14-2009 10:09 AM

shenmecar 06-14-2009 10:46 AM

i remember when gas was 40 cents a liter. I wasn't in canada yet though. more than 16 years ago.

van_driver 06-14-2009 12:36 PM

Which areas are you in other then mall of emirates and atlantis?

You'll see tons of exotics if you just go to the right places...

Try burjuman, dubai mall, emirates hills, ritz hotel, burj al arab etc...

It was way less than 16 years ago... it was like... 11-12 years ago.

I thought Abu dhabi was the one with all the nicer cars. Dubai's more of a tourist place but Abu dhabi takes that on a whole different level. Some guy there owns 3 Veyron's.

Timpo 06-14-2009 02:42 PM

not all cars in Dubai are exotics...obviously

maybe in some rich places in Dubai

40 cents a litre is up double from what my coworker saw when he was there around 2007

good try...but it IS really missing, and the rims are badly curbed. It could be owned by a woman

Liquid_o2 06-15-2009 10:05 AM

In Jeddah last year, gas was like 18-20 cents a liter when I did a quick conversion. My driver filled up our Nissan Armada which had something like a 100 liter tank, so we paid about $18 to fill the entire thing up.

Yeah, dubai has some nice highlights...

but that doesn't cover the "darkness" of dubai...

achiam 06-15-2009 05:41 PM

In the summers here in London, there are often handfuls of supercars here with UAE plates. A friend living in Dubai says the really rich ship their cars over to London when fleeing the hot summers.

orgasm_donor 06-15-2009 10:46 PM

I can remember filling up my GTO at $.28 a litre thinking...damn, someday its gonna reach 50 cents!

Wow. That speaks a lot for the avalanche.

Back in the day when I was in Saudi Arabia, the citizen's choice for an SUV was a Land Rover since they are the only SUV (aside from the H1) that can handle desert heat very well. Then came the Land Cruiser. At half the price of the Rover at that time, it can perform well under desert heat all day long without overheating. Thus, the spike of popularity of the Land Cruiser.
