My Car Was Broken Into Last night... $4000 Worth of Audio Gone.

My car was broken into this morning/last night. The thieves manage to steal my Boston Acoustic Subwoofers, my in-dash screen, three amps, etc... all totaling at around $3000-$4000 in just parts alone + hundreds upon hundreds in labor.

I have ALL the receipts and I even have old pictures as evidence to prove that these audio parts were all bolted down and professionally installed.

Furthering my claim, my trunk was completely ripped out... and there are bent screws/nails to prove this.

My door handle was also ripped out now my door doesn't close properly.

I just filed for insurance and my appointment is later this week... but how much will I be covered? I have comprehensive, but that's it. Will my audio be covered?

If it isn't, I will have lost about $7000 total! Ouch. Let me know your experiences...

http://www.icbc.com/autoplan/optiona...pment Coverage

This insurance is for the extra things you have added to your vehicle. It insures permanently attached non-manufacturer's equipment worth more than $5,000, or permanently attached sound and communication equipment worth more than $1,000 for most passenger and light commercial vehicles.
Since this option covers over $1000, perhaps it means that ICBC will only cover up to $1000 if you just have comprehensive. Sucks if you don't have this option. Fuck thieves.

I saw that. I do have that option...

But I've heard of stories where ICBC has covered much more than just $1000. My friend a few years ago went through the same ordeal and ICBC ended up covering $4000 worth of audio stolen. Did they change it recently?

Thank you so much! Out of the all the equipment that was taken, the components I really cared about were...

Boston Subwoofer G5124 - These are two subs that were stolen from my trunk. They are both 12". They were housed in a fiber glass box which was inverted.
Clarion Amplifier 500W Amplifier - There were two of these amps...model name DPX2250.
Clarion Amplifier 1500W Mono, Digital - Another amp... model name DPX11500.
Clarion in-dash CD/DVD 7" LCD screen - An in-dash TV screen for a car. Model number... VRX765VD

There were a ton of bits and pieces that were taken... but really those are the biggest components missing! If ANY of you guys see this floating around Ebay/Craigslist/Usedvictoria/Usedvancouver, please let me know!

One less criminal out there helps us protect our cars.

Yes, I am on the island. I am keeping track of Craigslist/UsedVic here... but Vancouver is a much bigger market... it might show up somewhere.

I'm offering a good cash reward for anyone that can help me track it down if that helps!

Here are the only pics I have of the sub and trunk setup...

Thanks, guys.

Keep cranking your systems specially when you park it helps me identify easy targets.

You may not believe this but I never crank my system. ESPECIALLY in parking lots. My car isn't all that flashy, either. It's pretty much completely stock from the exterior.

There is nothing on it that screams "i'm a target." Someone must have done their research.

I thought about this... and as naive as it sounds, I really don't know anyone personally that could have possibly pulled this off. As far as I know, I don't have any enemies.

I don't show off my car at all, either. Ever since I got it (about 2 weeks ago), I've kept it pretty much on the down low.

It may have been targeted during the tenure of the previous owner... I just don't know.

So you just got it a couple of weeks ago, did it come with the system?
if so, there is "someone" that knows about this setup besides you.

think about how can you prevent this next time. have you ever heard of the parking lot rule? turn it down when you're about to park or after you just started your car. only blast the subs when you're out in the middle of the road.

if you're parking your car with your subs blasting and a thief happens to be in the area, he'll know where to find your car...

I think you are only capped at $1000 in coverage. I remember reading if you had equipment more in excess you have to pay a premium for additional coverage. So if you didn't buy extra you may be screwed. Someone correct me if I'm wrong tho.

I've had this happen before... many times. I used to work downtown, then I lived in the West End - my cars were constantly getting broken into, stereo stolen, etc. ICBC finally told me I couldn't purchase comprehensive insurance though them anymore..

Then I grew up and realized that a big stereo was a waste of time, and the car was just a car to drive places. Now I look back at all the money I threw away at loud stereos, and boy do I regret that...
