Mobil 1 Pushing The Limit to 1 Million Miles

Mobil 1 puts their oils and gasolines to the test on a 1990 BMW 325i running it for 4 years straight up to 1,000,000 Miles.

Take a look - Mobile 1 Australia

Sorry if this is a repost but cool nonetheless. :)

Is this a plug for the E30 you own now? ;)

Nice find, both the car and fluids are quality stuff.

orange7 06-23-2009 11:03 PM

now i want to switch to Mobile 1

skyxx 06-23-2009 11:21 PM

Not bad, but I'm sure some of it was marketing. :) Any synthetic Oil will do fine like Amsoil.

J____ 06-23-2009 11:28 PM

fuk i thought they went 1million miles on 1 oil change lol

TOPEC 06-23-2009 11:38 PM

i wonder how the oil will perform under high stress like lots hard driving/spirited driving.
since this test was done with daily commute conditions(re: light stress), every oil should be able to perform the same if oil changes r done on a regular basis.

gotta love the music too,
"Dun DAH! Dun DAH! Dun DAH!"

interesting video though, I wonder what year this test was done

Rikaro 06-24-2009 12:08 AM

damn I was expecting 1 mil miles with no oil change. That's too much to ask heh? :P

mobil 1 test done by mobil 1

hmmmmmm

slammer111 06-24-2009 03:44 AM

Many cars that use this stuff already have 15000-20000km oil changes. Nowhere close to 1m, but a whole lot better than 5000km.

death_blossom 06-24-2009 05:42 AM

there have been a few trucks in existence to have hit 1millions miles as well.

SumAznGuy 06-24-2009 06:35 AM

Now the bigger question, is the oil they are using the same as the off the shelf stuff at crappy tire or stupid store?

Quite a few s2000 owners who use Mobil 1 are also have timing chain tensioner issues. I for one use oils other than Mobil 1 and do not have any issues with my TCT.

slammer111 06-24-2009 06:50 AM

^ What does your timing chain tensioner have to do with the oil used? Or I should ask, specifically what problems are they encountering?

ilvtofu 06-24-2009 08:01 AM

Hmm doesn't look like this test was really that tough on the car, "mostly at 85" this isn't really stop and go driving here... Every 7500 miles isn't pushing it at all.

Lol the video is so cheesy and 90s, looks like an older episode of TSN's Motoring or whatever that show was called.

DC5-S 06-24-2009 08:09 AM

pennzoil platinum synthetic is the same if not better the mobil 1.. amsoil is the best but the most costly.. pennzoil costs me 25 bucks for 4.8 litres on sale at canadian tire.. i bought 6 jugs lol

jlenko 06-24-2009 08:20 AM

Anyone with a newer vehicle that has the oil life system on it, knows that 5,000 km oil changes were always just bunk.

It all depends on how you drive.

Timpo 06-24-2009 09:07 AM

mobil 1 is good

kind of how I check my oil (when I DD my car) @ 10k and it's still pretty clean?

InvisibleSoul 06-24-2009 09:55 AM

I wonder how much fuel they burned doing this test...

SumAznGuy 06-24-2009 10:19 AM

The biggest test on oil is low pressure start ups when there is little to no oil up top.
And high temperature oil break down. I don't think constant driving at one speed will be too hard on the oil.

As for the TCT, not too sure, but everyone on S2ki that are having issues have been using Mobil 1.

I'm using Mobil 1 and so far, so good. Will keep on using

Clean on the dip stick does not = clean when you let it out of the pan.

Death2Theft 06-24-2009 04:56 PM

No cold starts this test is crap. I bet dino oil could do the same thing.

that is ur opinion, tests have proven that Royal Purple is the best lubricant out of all the top synthetic oils.
