I’m not surprised to see BMW below average in quality. I've leased 3 BMW's over 7 years and I've had issues. The 6 series had the least amount of issues I assume because I didn't drive it much, my first BMW was a 325i sedan and it was basically a lemon it had so many issues. Now, I got my 335i 3 months ago and I've already had 2 issues. First issue was the trim on the passenger door had to be replaced because it cracked. The reason, the trim itself was not properly installed at the factory and cracked over time. Second issue, an intermittent malfunction error for the exterior bulb (very common issue with the 3 series) comes on one day, disappears the next. Thankfully I lease.

not enough numbers sold to qualify for survey... or judging from what people post on the internet, they've all either been crashed or have burned to the ground

whoa.... mercedes-benz is just behind honda?!?! almost everyone i know with a (newer) MB have told me never to buy one and they would never own one ever again

and i'm shocked to see that subaru scored so low... we've had subarus in the family since 1985 and all of them have been bombproof

IQS is typically flawed anyways.

Hummer scores low due to "poor gas mileage"
Until JDS standardizes what a "problem" is, I'll take any study with a huge grain of salt.

Well this only applies to a specific model year, so having previous models doesn't necessarily count, I was shocked to see Mercedes' huge improvement because of my own W203 having numerous problems, but I know many friends with 203 who haven't had any problems, out of the ordinary at least... So i'll accept this ranking

Shocking to see mini all the way at the bottom, They've been making these cars for a while and so many of them already, You'd think they'd have worked out the kinks!

At least the top 5 weren't a surprise

Nice to see Ford and chevy being above average

Pls show me where IQS measures complaints about poor gas mileage as a factor.

I thought the major complaint with Hummers was with dicks not growing the rumored 3 inches upon purchase?

Yeah, what do they consider a problem to be? I mean, Mazda is below average but many Mazdas are just reskinned Fords and Ford is just a point below Toyota.

These are the 20 most frequent problems for one vehicle in the JD Power study.

Excessive Wind Noise
Brakes Are Noisy
HVAC CONTROLS-DTU/DTS/Read/Poor Location
Door Locks-Broken/NW
Hands-Free Communication-Doesn't Recognize Command
Paint Imperfection-Chip/Scratch At Delivery
Glove Box-Difficult To Use
Materials Scuffs/Soils Easily
Other Interior
Excessive Fuel Consumption
Front Audio/Ent System-Controls DTU/Poor Location
Memory Seat-Controls DTU/Use
Center Console-Difficult To Use
Navigation System-Map/Wrong Direc/Poor Location
Abnormal Noises Under Vehicle
Seat Belt Latch/Release-Controls DTU/Use
Foot Pedals Too Close Together
Front Doors-Hard To Open/Close
Battery Failed
Fuel Cap-Hard To Open/Close

Wind noise complaints, for example, accounted for 5 of the total 115 point score.

I've had a family member do this for the '08 survey and, yes, fuel consumption is one of the questions.
