PORT ALICE (NEWS1130) - He miraculously survived at the bottom of a well for four days without food or water. Had it not been for a worried friend who called police late Tuesday night, 84-year-old Bob Bennett may have never been found.

When Mounties showed up at his house they felt something was wrong and decided to start a search at first light. Corporal Darren Lagan with Island District RCMP says after hours of combing Bennett's property, a police dog called 'Nick' led them to the opening of a well and sure enough, crouched at the bottom, Lagan says rescuers found the elderly man alive and well. "Certainly he lives on his own up there. I think he probably faired better than somebody from the city would have. He's used to a bit of a rougher life up there."

Bennett suffered no injuries. One rescuer pointed out that at 84-years-old, Bennett proves age means nothing when you have the will to survive.

gives the thumbs up $$ hope im able to do that at 84

it wouldn't be hard to survive for 4 days at the bottom of a well, not like he had to take the heat from the sun or the cold from the wind. if he survived 4 days in the woods, that will be a different story.

Alphamale 06-25-2009 05:26 AM

^and...for some ingenious reason you left out the fact that he's 84.

I'm not sure how many 80+ old people you know, but to be able to fall down a well (of some depth where you can't climb back up) and not break a hip is a feat in itself, aside from surviving 4 days without water and food.

Regardless, I think you're downplaying the situation.

84 year old people die just from falling over, let alone down a well.

I didn't think even a healthy young person could survive 4 days without water.

c_loke 06-25-2009 06:52 AM

thats one tough sob.

hotjoint 06-25-2009 07:09 AM

nice

InvisibleSoul 06-25-2009 10:25 AM

They don't make 'em like they used to.

mr_chin 06-25-2009 10:37 AM

nothing in the news said he fell into the well.

a human being can survive without food for five weeks and without water for approximately five days to a week out in the wilderness. being in a well negates the sunlight, travel, and the wind/rain/snow, so 4 days without food just sitting there isn't that much of a big deal.

WHEYsted 06-25-2009 10:47 AM

^ You still don't get it you stuck up sob. He's 84 fucking years old. Your gay facts may be so for an average person but it changes with old age. I wanna meet you when you are 84 years old and throw you into a well for 4 days and see if you survive. Little bitch...

[jsx] sky 06-25-2009 10:48 AM

why wasnt there water at the bottom of the well?

let's throw your parents into a well for 4 days and see how easy it is

seriously...go die in a fire.

BNR32_Coupe 06-25-2009 10:55 AM

Ill just go clean the bottom of this well even though nobody's around to help me in case something goes wrong.

you couldnt survive for 4 hours without your blackberry let alone 4 days without WATER.

i believe the general thought is after 3 days without water, the human body starts to deteriorate significantly and an average healthy person will die after 4 days. this old bastard not only survived 4 days without water, but he was still in good enough shape to stand there and give the thumbs up.

Because you're so defiant, http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-col...-man-well.html says that he fell in, and attempted to help himself out 4 times before giving up.

Not sure about you, but I don't know many 70+ that can pull themselves outta hole, not in in North America where much of them are over-weight, at least.

So account the fact that he's done some strenuous activity to loose even more water from his body, it's quite the feat. Although, one could say that heavy rains subdued the effects of dehydration to some extent.

he's one tough cookie. The fact that he had a rougher life also help. I'm sure us city dwellers would give up & let ourselves die

I say we just throw you in a well for 4 days. Jail is bad enough, being in solitary confinement in the dark with no food or water wondering whether someone will ever find you is pretty traumatic

bengy 06-25-2009 12:40 PM

He probably drank whatever rain water came into the well.

ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS? FUCK YOU MAN, FUCK YOU!
Have you ever done the 30 hour famine? and if you have, have you done it on JUST water, no juice or slurpee's or anything else? It's NOT fucking easy. And if you have, you can attest to the difficulty of it.

This guy did it for ~100 hours. He's 84. He didn't even have WATER.
So just MAN THE FUCK UP, admit that this guy is a freaking BEAST and go on with your day. a FEW more days without water and he would be DEAD.

I'm sick and tired of people like you who put a negative spin on everything...

It was probably an old well. ie. after years of use, the water table is now well below the well itself. Therefore, no water left.

A person may be able to survive 5-7 days without food or water but do you know how they would look if they tried, certainly not like this man. I mean the guy is 84 years old and he doesn't even look like he's missed a meal, you gotta be joking thinking that it's not hard for somebody to be without food and water for 4 days let alone the dude is 84 fuckin years old. He's standing on his own, he's even fuckin giving the thumbs up whereas most people in his situation would probably be on a stretcher heading to the hospital.

dinosaur 06-25-2009 10:55 PM

Jackygor 06-26-2009 12:03 AM

hard to imagine a 84 year old can survive in the well for 4 days without dying. A tough man indeed.
