Do you use an illegal version of Windows? Hey guys. I'm thinking of upgrading from vista to windows 7. i can get windows 7 upgrade at FS for $54.99 w. canada day coupon. but my friend told me that i'm stupid and i'm going to waste money buying it when i can just wait until it comes out and download it somewhere... btw. mods if this is not appropriate feel free to remove this thread. anyways, what happens if i do this? since i have a genuine copy of windows vista can i just download the update and i'll be good? no problems? thanks. |
I'd just buy it since you have a legit version of Vista. Think of how much the upgrade is ($55 + tax) and think about how many years you'll be using this OS. It costs next to nothing when you break it down that way. |
honestly, even if we do, no one is going to come out and say "yeah, i use a pirated copy". If you can get the os at a price that you think is fair, go for it. |
besides, its annoying having to patch WGA once in a while in order to have windows update working. too much hassle when windows 7 hp or pro upgrade is so cheap already. |
you guys think u could download a version of Vista with a key and use it to get an upgrade to 7? or is it fairly locked down? |
no, no I don't, but are you from Microsoft? |
I used to use a pirated yet fully functional [ all windows update capble] copy of windows xp pro. Hey i never though of using the canada day coupon to buy the upgrade .. smart move. |
It is such a hassle to use a pirated version of WIndows. You cannot upgrade Windows 7 with a pirated Vista/XP. :) I remember for my previous computer, and still usable by the way, requires to crack/bypass WGA for whatever Microsoft program you download. With a legit Vista cd key for this current computer, I could care less how WGA works or wants to validate stuff. A lot of ppl are doing the $10 off at FS to get Windows 7, the only price is paying $2 for shipping, so you're really only saving $8. |
isn't it..win7 won't come out until next year? why are we ordering it now? |
I'm pretty sure it's set for October 22. Those using the RC won't expire till next year. I think it's MS' way of being generous. |
gotta pay for shipping? cant do a store pickup? |
too bad, the upgrade is for Home Premium...I am looking for ultimate |
can you upgrade from legit XP to 7 for cheap? |
at that price it's worth it at like the $200+..not really :lol remember when XP came out in 2000 it was SOO hard to crack ..haha. |
well wait for cracked version windows |

I would just buy an original. Too many hassles and updates you will need....especially with a newly released OS. There's bound to be updates. |

http://www.futureshop.ca/search/sear...=EN&search=KWS for Windows 7 Ultimate - $279.99 less $10 coupon. http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...15&catid=10657 And i think i'll just buy the update.. as many of you said, the price is cheap and there is no hassel. with the illegal stuff, it would be too much work for someone like me.. thanks. |
^ true. If Windows 7 does stay for another 8-10 years, the upgrade is well worth the $65. I thought that was back in the XP days. I don't know anyone who uses a pirated Vista. |
i'll just wait for OEM its gonna be cheaper then upgrade version anyways |

if you try in store pick up you get this message; "Some of the items in your shopping cart are not available for pick up in-store. Please remove these items and create a separate order for them, or check to see if the product is available for shipping. Items not available for pick up in-store are: 1. Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade" |

No offense but your friend is the dumb one. Just buy the software and support the industry. Plus getting a genuine copy gives you perks of hassle free updates etc etc. People who keep on downloading software like Photoshop actually make Software more expensive. :/ |
