| Breach of Contract
So here's the story, I had a job working with this community center that started at the beginning of last week. I was working fine when at the end of the week, I got a call and was offered a job that is more career oriented. So I quit my other job, and was given a contract (note I was told not to sign it and have the email) and was told I would start this other marketing job on Monday. This morning, I get a call and they tell me that the contract is pushed back 2 weeks, which literally, those 2 weeks are during the time I'm supposed to be in school.
Now my question is, what they did, isn't that a breach of the original contract? I quit my other job, am without a job for the next 2 weeks with tons of bills to pay, and no income. Is there anything I can do? What would you guys do?

i think for something so small, u'd have to go up against the company and their power lawyers in court and assuming ur even allowed to, it would be in a while and if u lose u'll have to pay everyone's court fees :-s
maybe threaten to sue the shit outta them and say your father's a high-powered lawyer who will chew them up? see if they pay up or something? lol

^^ Ya I definitely don't want to burn that bridge, and I plan on working for them. I was just wondering if there was anything I could do to be compensated for those 2 weeks, because technically it's a breach of contract.

any attempt to go further on this will look bad on you and will hurt your chances to work for them in the future.

If you don't want to get on their bad side, maybe you should talk to someone in HR and see if they can help you.

so this job would be only for 2 weeks?
you can't work when you have school?
if you can hold off that 2 weeks i'd say just let it go .. kind of bad impression if you make a hassle b4 you even start working
but i do see some legal grounds if you ask for compensation

suing your soon to be employer which will help build your career for such trivial matter...?
Just ask nicely and see if they can do anything about it...if not, suck it up. Thing doesn't always turnout good in life.

Oh I was never planning on suing, I was just wondering if I was right in saying that this was a breach of contract or not. The program I'm in was supposed to go from July 6-Sep 6, but now is being pushed back 2 weeks, which now runs in to school, and I lose some of my wage, as I can't work the full-time shifts during school.

However, the lack of documentation makes them challenging to enforce though. You might be SOL here.

^^ I have a contract in writing in my email, with a note attached saying I don't need to sign it. I guess I'll just wait to see what they say, thanks for the input guys!

Consider it a 2 week vacation and go enjoy the sun. 2 weeks without income won't kill you.

Just don't get into the habit of being lax with the bills.
