OMG!!! just hit a racoon... should I worry?

4 mins ago, it's pretty dark out and my car has shitty lights as u can see it's an 88... So yeah it ran out from the sidewalk, I saw it, screamed, then proceeded to run it over, heard two clunks, and look back in my mirror and saw it run away.

I know this is facepalm fodder but don't raccoons usually travel in packs? My area is infested with racoons (dunbar) will they smell the blood or whatever it may be from under my car and seek me out? they are vicious animals and i've heard bad things about them. Now i'm really scared that one or two will be just waiting there underneath my car (parked in a carport with no garage door or ne other protection) not only racoons but crows, squirrels, rats etc...
Should I worry about getting attacked by animals? I think i'll be taking my car to the car wash even though I just waxed it 2 days ago :(, just to make sure that the bottom gets washed off.

PS anyone else ever run over a racoon? I doubt i actually ran over it, it probably just hit something under my car but i was going at least a good 60km/h so i'm surprised it didn't at least get knocked out, I saw it run away pretty fast...

jbsali 07-02-2009 09:29 PM

nothing to worry about. is this a serious post? lol its hard to tell

ilvtofu 07-02-2009 09:31 PM

Lol sorta, i'm a new driver and i've got goosebumps all over, I've never hit any animal or anything, hopefully it didn't bleed racoon juice all over, I don't have the guts to see and it's too dark outside right now.

koukimonst3r 07-02-2009 09:33 PM

I almost ran over a racoon the other night. I was at burnaby mountain and I got shit scared so I stopped and let it pass. I was scared it might fuck up my car coz of how my front bumper is LOL

I believe when they cross the street, they go alone. When they hunt for food, they travel in packs.

ilvtofu 07-02-2009 09:34 PM

I think you're right though, most likely if it ran away it's probably good to go.. but i'm not kidding about my phobia of wild animals, I like pets but racoons/skunks/squirrels/rodents/etc. really creep the fuck out of me

^as long as it doesn't hunt me down

koukimonst3r 07-02-2009 09:35 PM

Haha dw man, you're not alone. At least your front bumper isn't like mine LOL

ilvtofu 07-02-2009 09:37 PM

Is yours a snowplow? my car rides pretty high up so it's better for this situation also i was accelerating so maybe that'd make a difference, RWD FTL lolz maybe it wouldn't have had hit if there wasn't a driveshaft or a diff back there JKJK RWD FTMFW!!!

koukimonst3r 07-02-2009 09:39 PM

well, it's not really low but I mean the gap could probably fit a racoon or two haha
I'm dropping it tmrw with some shocks/springs. my car looks like a 4x4 right now so high LOL

I guess the raccoon is fine if you ran it over and it kept running, probably did a good couple cartwheels under the car though.

Rikaro 07-02-2009 09:45 PM

koukimonst3r 07-02-2009 09:55 PM

k now I gotta be more careful

ilvtofu 07-02-2009 09:59 PM

imma raise my car to avoid this stuff

Carl Johnson 07-02-2009 10:28 PM

Your first reaction would hit the break first (with no car behind of course) and not scream and ran it over. That's like seeing a huge pothole on the road but proceed it anyways.

Black SC2 07-02-2009 10:30 PM

See if you can find it. If the thing is lying somewhere bleeding out, you should finish it off or take it to a shelter. Don't let the thing suffer after you smash it.

Leopold Stotch 07-02-2009 10:58 PM

go to a carwash and get the underbody cleaned

SkinnyPupp 07-02-2009 11:05 PM

Yes raccoons can smell blood, and they do travel in packs. And even worse, they can smell fear. You better stay indoors tonight at least, and take a weapon with you when you go to check out the car tomorrow.

don't worry, raccoons are pretty damn tough animals. i once a car role over a raccoon on boundary and it was a pretty sad sight. that thing was scrabbling in agony. i'm pretty sure it was donedesss.

TOPEC 07-02-2009 11:42 PM

be glad that u ran over a raccoon and not a skunk.

penner2k 07-03-2009 12:08 AM

MOVE!!
I've heard stories for raccoons actually breaking into a house and killing people while they sleep after they run over another raccoon..

Nightwalker 07-03-2009 12:13 AM

^ for real, I bet it got your license plate number. You're so fucked.
