Anyone ever work at Wal-Mart?

Yeah, I'm pretty much on the end of the leash, and I've decided to head to my local Wal-Mart to apply. However, I wanna see if anyone here has ever worked there or knows anyone that does, since I want to know what I would be getting into if I got hired.

Thanks in advance.

I got hired there like you as a last ditch "I'll take anything" type of job a long time ago.

Ok here goes... true story. So I went in for my first shift... no psyched AT ALL for working there. They do this "chant/pep talk" in the morning before the store opens up. So everyone is standing there in a circle and I'm standing there and the manager says... Give me a W... "W" everyone yells..... and they go through the letters of Walmart. I'm kinda yelling along with everyone else so I don't look out of place.... Then at the end he says... "Who's number 1?" and I yell Walmart! Everyone looks at me like I just slapped the manager... and he looks at me and says... "The customer is Number 1 always."

I took off my shirt dropped it on the floor turned around and walked out never to return. haha No word of a lie.

Have fun and remember THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS NUMBER 1!!!

Berz out.

I worked at WalMart before for about 3 shifts, then I quit. I got put into Seasonal, but ended up doing cashier most of the time. I had it with that place. Overworked, and the pay was kinda shitty.

btw. Berz is right. They really do make you do that lameass Walmart cheer. ugh. Im so glad I left that place.

Worked there many years ago. Yep they make you gather around and do that lame ass cheer in the morning. I just gave up after a while and never went to the morning meeting. haha. In all honesty it wasn't a bad job to do while you're in school. Pretty flexible. That's about it.

WOW that cheer thing sounds gay. Makes me doubt applying since I have an application primed and ready to go. I've got like Superstore, Pricesmart, Zellers, etc nearby, but they either aren't hiring, or have retarded online-only applications that don't work.

God dammit I need a job for the summer....

I was at a company conference recently where one of the speakers was telling us at dinner of his first hand account of this humiliating chant. He lost a little respect for his own profession when he saw them all stand and chant in unison at a Walmart conference.

Maybe it's an American thing.

And I'm glad I don't work for Walmart.

in japan, they do this before every shift.
it's to boost morale. it does work if people are pumped and do enjoy the work. Then again, i can totally see how it doesn't work for someone that's been there for 3 yrs and hates their job.

Wal-Mart is on the maybe list for me. I can always go there for in-school year employment, but for now, I've got an interview lined up at NAPA in Langley for warehousing for the summer tomorrow.

I personally don't like working in an environment where I have to deal with customers. I applied for the Grandview one, and they called me back after about a month and a half, but I was already hired at a produce packing warehouse.

The only good thing I can see working at places like Wal-mart or Superstore is if there are female colleagues and you can make friends with them. Otherwise I prefer working with as little people as possible, and people you can communicate with (like same race and stuff).

I used to work there as an unloader when I was in high school... you only have to do the cheer at opening so as long as you have shifts that don't start at opening you're safe of that retarded cheer... The only time you'll ever do it otherwise is during your orientation. At least that's how it was at the Guildford Location. Overall It wasn't that bad of a job now that I look back at it, but then again all the other guys I worked with were pretty chill and we slacked off a lot haha.

Haha, that's the EXACT one I plan on applying at! I'm officially out of options so I'm dumping off an application on Sunday....or if I don't get word from grocery store online applications in the next 2 weeks...
