| Does anyone know anything about LED TVs?
I'm in the market for a new TV. I had decided that I wanted a plasma over the LCD because I like the picture better, but now they have those new LED TVs. Does anyone know what the advantages are and if its worth the extra money? When I was in future shop the other day, a 50" was going for about $4500.

LEDs? Never heard.
I think LCD > Plasmas because once the Plasma breaks down, basically gg to your TV.

not sure what the deal with the new crazy expensive LCD's but there prob a scam since everything else is so cheap. IMO get a $1000 LCD and you'll be more than satisfied. Other hand if your hardcore into sports, plasma wil be ftw. Keep in mind plasmas are more suited ot a dark room and consume more power and create more heat. LCDs can be wall mounted and are more friendly to a room with window(s) <--- thats what i learn when i worked at London Drugs a few years ago.
Def shop around tho, find a few choices and research on the net.

From what I have read in the past LCD is brighter, while plasma has a better picture.
LCD - bright room.....plasma - dark room.
I think those new units are just ultra-thin.

LED TVs, in the context of the OP, is the way the screen gets backlit. By using LEDs to backlight the screen, it means brighter displays, less power consumption, longer life, and a thinner screen. IIRC, current TVs are backlit with flourescents.
The Sony OLED screen, isn't an LCD backlit by LEDS, each pixel IS an LED.

Take a look at the Panasonic g10's before you buy a tv.
If you have the money this is the best TV period. http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...0106344&catid=

Plasmas offer a fantastic picture quality. Personally, I hate LCD.
Each to their own though, and I never fucking watch tv anyways |

TV's these days have become for the most part in home movie displaying devices considering I don't know that many people who sit and watch a wholesome 60 inches of good ole television programming.

from all the research ive been doing, plasma is cheaper cuz its slightly older tech now. however it is better for gaming.
LCD's have come a long way, less ghosting, use less power, but pricing is more expensive than plasma's.

plasma over LCD all day long. i have an LCD in my bedroom and a plasma in the living room. the ONLY advantage to LCD is its resistance to glare. i'll stick with plasma until OLED's are cheap.
good choice troy.

LCD's have trouble with black or true black. Because the whole LCD has to be lit, in the older LCD's they tend to give you a dark gray effect.
Where as plasma, can actually give you a true black.
LED Panels can do the same as Plasma where they can choose not to power up certain pixels (L.E.D. Bulbs)
Plasma's do get very hot, but offer smooth faster response picture.
I have a Samsung 58" Plasma and seems to perform well. Only thing I don't like about it is it gets so warm, you can feel the radiant heat a foot away from the tv, but I have AC at my house so who cares.
As for LCD, Plasma, and LED.
They can ALL be wall mounted but Plasma is heavier, LCD is lighter, and the new LED tv's are super light and are like paper thin
