every driver should be re-tested when license is being renewed. Although it's a nuisance for most, this is a good way to keep bad drivers off the road

Driving is easy. Instead of testing driving practices, we should give seniors full mental and health assessments prior to letting them back on the road.

I Wholeheartedly agree.

This: http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Div...457/story.html

This unfortunate accident was a little over 2 weeks ago. She was my dear friend from highshool (Killarney). Regardless of what the article says, it was caused by a elderly man, who was clinically deaf. He cut her off, and made her car swerve. Witnesses say that she repeatedly honked and honked, but it was too late. It was the day after it snowed. She has managed to survive for 2 weeks but passed away 2 days ago.

RIP C.N.

The majority of Vancouver drivers won't even signal anymore, and that's include a lot of Caucasian people.

"cutting off cars, changing lanes and turning without signaling, blocking the passing lane, etc." -> that should apply to white people as well, and a fair share of it.

I'm really sorry to hear about your friend. I also agree with most here, that they should implement stricter driving/health tests for seniors. I think 70yrs+ is a good threshold to start having mandatory driving tests every 2 years.

For those who don't know where that is, its here.

http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&sourc...37894&t=h&z=15

edit: fyi, its a one way street
People who are not familiar with the area usually drive in the wrong direction there but most of them don't get too far before realizing that's it's a one way street and they are going the wrong direction. They don't know that they have to turn at No.3 Road so they just keep driving straight until a bunch of people start honking at them.

One time I was going south on the Oak Street Bridge and there was a car in front of me in the left lane going about the speed limit but they were driving hard into the concrete barrier every few seconds or using the concrete barrier to keep their car going straight. At first I thought it was a drunk driver but turns out it was a senior man in his late 80's or early 90's and his wife

Fucking young kids getting into so many accidents from dumbass driving. Insurance rates are so high because of young dipshit drivers under the age of 30.

The last time I had an accident that was my fault was when I was 17. Not a single accident since then. Been driving for close to 40 years now. I can outdrive any of you pussies!

Not really related, but the last time I was at the track, I had reaction times better than the majority of the young punks out there. Fucking noobs have no idea how to drive.

I've been driving since most of you weren't even on the minds of your mommas. Hell, I probably even fathered a few of you useless cunts. So don't tell me I need to take no fucking driving test. I can drive the wrong way down a fucking freeway at 220 kmph and not hit a single vehicle, god damn it.

There, you happy now?

The majority of what I see coming from eldest drivers is them just blowing through red lights. I don't really understand why this is the most common thing I see... Anyway it's dangerous out there. Drive safe.

I drive a lot everyday of my life. And old drivers are MUCH worst then younger drivers from my experiences. I rarely see a "punk ass kid" these days driving like a dick, most of the time its either a old person not signaling or just not paying attention at all. Or the occasional surrey jack showing off.

everyone should have to take a test when they renew. Young, old, black, white or anything in between I dont care. Its bad enough that young people are discriminated against with the insurance rates the way they are. Everyone no execptions, even my mom and dad with a flawless record for 40+ years each and that guy down the road whos had his 2nd accident this week. That way people can be tested on the habits they have devloped, and failed if they are not up to par. Sure old people probably are more likely to cause an accident, but I wouldnt rule out the general stupidity of the average person.

Isn't ICBC increasing people's premiums or they already had? I heard somewhere that insurance will be cut by like 2%.

How do you "outdrive" someone on a legit city streets

You can drive without your seatbelt on without getting into accidents and still get ticketed for. You can drive drunk without getting into accidents and still get ticketed for. Violation is violation, no matter how good you are at it.

Is it really unreasonable to have seniors be reexamied 40 years after there last road test? They should be reexamied to see if therr still capable of driving. Young drivers are perfectly capable, just they decided to take advantage of there priviledge and ignore all responsibility that comes with driving a vehicle. To have everyone to redo the exam each time they renew there licence is completely retarded. Ur punishing the whole driving population when only 10-20% needs to be punished. Possibly have longer suspensions, one strike rule in ur first year of driving possibly.

Yep...

Actually, shitty drivers can be summed up in 2 categories: clueless and assholes.

At least asshole drivers are aware that what they're doing is wrong but are usually, paying attention to their surroundings. Clueless drivers scare the crap out of me cause they have no idea of what's happening and continue to drive. The scariest ones are clueless yet feel entitled to drive however they want..

So are we talking ever 5 years? I don't think that'd go down too well.
But let's say every 10? That sounds like something the public could actually stomach. ICBC could stand to make a bit more money and that should help keep some bad drivers off the roads and hopefully save a life or two.

What do you guys think is a reasonable age for mandatory medical exams for reaction timing and situational awareness? 65? 70? 80?
And at what frequency should they happen? Bi-annually?

The drivers that scare me most on the ones that are spacey.

Putting this into perspective, I'd trust somebody's reaction and awareness if they could rank in the top 5 for a Call of Duty match consistently.

People who have problems playing mario 1 who literally try to "jump" with their controllers? Those people terrify the crap out of me because it's evident there is a gap somewhere between Observation, Processing, and Reaction.

I think it should be mandatory for seniors over a certain age to be examined for their health and eye sights before their license renewal.

Just last month, I was in a car accident involving a senior driver, she was 89. She lost control of her vehicle and took out a total of 6 vehicles in the whole ordeal.

The vehicle she was driving, the gas pedal somehow got stuck, and she was doing 360s in the middle of Austin in poco. Her car finally came to a complete stop and caught on fire.

what if you went for your COD test and they only have an XBOX at the DMV, and you were used to playing on your PS3??
