It is a big deal to me, because if I wasn't paying attention/kept a safe distance, I WOULD have rear ended him.

It's ok if that's an isolated incident, but he kept at it for 2-3 times.

good point, I am going to give ICBC a quick call during lunch with the plate number and car model.

Sounds like you were following too close, even though you don't think you were.

If he brake checked you once, then leave room. The fact that he did it three times showed that you were too close for him to be comfortable.

Just ease off a little bit next time. Even though you thought you were giving adequate room, give more.

Yeah, people usually do that when they're looking for an address. It's annoying in principle but I don't really come across that all too often.

1 car length going around 40 km/hr seems pretty generous to me... the dood infront of him is just a douchebag

He was probably looking for an address or something. No need to get so frustrated when you can just pass him. Unless you're talking about the section of Rupert where it's only 1 lane. In that case, then I'd say the least he could do was speed up to 45-50 km/h.

hey WouWou this was the same idiot I encountered. It was after midnight no one was in front of him and only me behind him. This was the section of Rupert where it was only 1 lane. On a green light he stops in the middle of Kingsway and Rupert for no reason so I started honking like crazy . I gave him 3 car lengths after that and every time I would accelerate he would brake. He would break at every cross street all the way down Rupert. This guy was not looking for an address just driving like an idiot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! report him

agreed, what are you going to report him for? Braking to slow down? And your defense about if you weren't paying attention, you could have rear-ended him is retarded.

1 car length may be a bit close. It's rush hour, that's fine but you should be using the 2 second rule rather than car lengths. Use the 2 second rule at all times and add to it when conditions get worse.

Sounds like one of those self-righteous pricks who drives exactly 50 also. Eh, whatevs.

What drives me nuts are ppl who TURN AROUND and run in front of me to block me from turning left onto a side street cuz I didn't wait for them to completely get off the road but there's more than enough room for me to turn. Sure you're technically supposed to wait, but in that case then only 1 car should ever turn left on each red. Again, righteous retards. One day they're gonna get run over.

Off topic, but anyone read that article in the Courier where they basically found that "traffic calming" doesn't really work?

40 km/hr roughly = 24 miles/hr, that's 1 car's length for safety.

and seriously, what kind of car can not come to a complete stop within 2 seconds @ 40km/hr?

I was accelerating when he abruptly stopped.

Try that next time in the rain yourself and see if it is retarded. Oh and do it when there is nothing in front of you, just in case.

one that's driving in rainy, oily and potentially slick conditions. You never know, better safe than sorry.

But 40km/hr is roughly 11m/s... 2 seconds = 22m, that's roughly 4 full size car lengths you should've been back. I don't think any car is able to stop from 40kph in 1 car length's distance.

It's all relative. Even if the car in front of you jams his breaks, he won't be stopping in 1 car length either. Theoritically barring excessive variations in size and speed, 2 cars going at the same speed will require roughly the same distance to stop. Meaning, the added stopping distance to car 1 will also be available to car 2.

That's why wouwou was able to avoid an accident. In addition to the distance, he was already going a rather slow pace.

^I was going to post that too.

I know for absolute distance, it takes more than 2 secs to get from 40 to 0, and the car in front of me is moving relatively the same to me as well.

That's why I said better safe than sorry, you never know what can happen. Guy in front could plow into a stopped semi which would stop him instantly leaving you with only one car length to stop. The 2 second rule isn't just for stopping distance, it's to give you time to react to the situation as well.

1 car length is acceptable if you're going under 10kph. At 40kph in rainy weather, that's really pushing it.

I know what you are trying to get at, but we should all understand that if the car in front is about to plow into a stopped semi, we can see it from a mile away.

Doesnt matter.

I was involved in an accident 3 years ago.
There were 2 cars in front of me. A car cut off the first car. He slammed on his brakes.
Car #2 hit car #1 and I hit car #2.

The loser that caused the accident by cutting the first car off took off. I dont even think he knew what he caused.

Everybody involved in the accident was at fault. Apparently we were too close to each other.

So it doesnt matter about when the car in front of you stopped.
If you hit them. Its your fault for being too close.
Simple as that.

So I asked the question to ICBC.
Does that mean if I slam on the brakes "for no reason", and a car collides with me. The car behind me is at fault?
The answer from ICBC was. "yes"
