What cellphone company offers the best bang for buck plans?

my rogers 3 year contract ends next term and i wanna buy a cheaper plan.. perferablly unlimited text messaging or a high number of text messages allowed per month.. with 100-200 daytime minutes with unlimited on weekends and after 6-8.. i just want the cheapest.. and i also dont want to be stuck in another contract.. id rather just keep my shitty phone i have now.. and sign up for a new company for a short term that uses sim cards..

Rogers will give you a great deal to get you to stay with them. Check out the retentions thread in the Cell Phone forum.

Retention plans from Fido are pretty sweet too. Here's my plan:
200 Weekday Minutes, Unlimited incoming, unlimited eve/weekends @ 7, fido to fido, 2500 text, call display, enhanced voice mail, 6 gb of data, no saf and no 911 for $55

not a bad plan, but i think mine is better for $2.50 more

ya the catch is gotta extend 2-3 years more, which i could careless. Because no matter which company u switch, at the end of the day you still need a wireless provider for u to bs on the phone

Rogers/Fido will be the only GSM (i.e. SIM card) game in town for a while. Telus/Bell may switch, but their prices will stay the same. Even if YAK manages to get their cell phone service off the ground, I don't see how they can offer unlimited calling/ unlimited texting (which is what everyone wants at a price of $30/month) without losing money and/or eventually raising prices.

Check out Red Flag Deals or Howard Forums for deals that various people are getting. However, set your expectations reasonably; unless you've been a customer for a long time (e.g. 6+ years), don't expect to get some ridiculous plan at $15-20/month.

If you're looking to get an I-Phone, you might as well get a data plan. For reference, I pay just under $50/month on my CrackBerry. I have the EPP voice plan and a $20 data plan which gives me 10K texts, 500 megs of data, voice, and caller ID. If you can't get 6 Gigs of data, I wouldn't worry too much because unless you're tethering, you won't even get up to 500 megs a month.

Mine

Fido $17.50

200 mins (by the second)
Unlimited eve and weekends starting from 5pm

I added voicemail, who's calling, caller ID, and I think 150 text messages or 200 I can't remember.

After taxes, that stupid $6.95 fee, etc = $40.something cents

Remember with Fido it's by the second. To some it doesn't matter because they have other benefits like unlimited incoming or free rogers to rogers that off sets it a bit but overall by the second imo is dope.

I'm on Virgin Mobile. It's pay as you go. $20 a month after everything. 200 anytime minutes.

I use my phone mainly for work and don't do any texting. I like it because theres no plan, plus you get 3 free months when you buy a 50 dollar phone.

Stay with rogers and negotiate for a retention plan

Mine is decent, and under $60 a month

I've got
350 daytime mins
Unlimited incoming, evenings and weekends
10,000 picture and SMS msgs (free to receive)
500mb data
VM
Caller ID
Who called (kinda useless to me)

Some RSer's have insanely good plans, take a look in the mobile phone chat

imo Rogers, although it has many faults is still by far the best provider, especially if you are a long time customer

the other ones like Kuudo etc. seem like they are for people on welfare, they are all just gimicks and in the end you pay more than you would with rogers.

Call rogers/fido and kindly ask for the retention plan (keep calling until a CSR says ok)

It's a standard $25 plan they give to everyone who's contract is about to expire.

200 daytime minutes
no SAF/911
unlimited even/weekends
free incoming calls
CID/VM
unlimited fido 2 fido
2500 txt message

Only stipulation is you gotta sign a 2 year contract...for $25/month you shouldn't really care...you're going to need a cell phone provider anyways.

out of curiousity

with fido and rogers and bell and such...is there the same system access fee and 911 fees?

I don't see the point in telling people you have a $20 plan if after taxes its like $35.

Several or most of Fido's plans don't have the SAF. All Rogers plans have it and its 6.95. Both require a $0.50 (or $1.00?) 911 fee.
