ICBC reselling written off cars?

So I was just cruising craigslist and I happened to find my old car which was written off by ICBC. How common is it for ICBC to sell written off cars and wasn't there an investigation around this before?

Yes there was, I'm sure they reduced the amount of cars that go through being rebuilt. Lets see the link

If you guys remember the front suspension was damaged, the cables in the driver door were ripped, dent in the a-pillar, and of course the physical things you can see in the picture above

icbc sells written off cars all the time.
they have a huge lot with all the cars that only people with a license can buy from. I think its a license for a shop that rebuilds cars or something. not too sure.

they all get sold and any body shop or other licenced person can buy the car as a 'salvage' or 'rebuild' title. if its a rebuild, they can fix it up and put it back on the road and sell it.

Yeah, I know someone who owns and autoshop and he bought many cars from ICBC. He rebuilt an Eclipse, Tiburon, and a Beamer.

They sell every single car that is in an accident... that's who they recoup some of the money paid out... what's the big surprise?

The only variable is whether it gets tagged as rebuildable or for parts only. Anyone with a bodyshop license can bid on the cars.

I don't see the problem if the car was repaired properly. With that said, hopefully they will declare everything to any buyers..

Pretty much all of the above. The problem a few months ago was that some ICBC managers were buying cars that were technically writeoffs and should have carried "rebuilt" status. However, they were repaired and resold without the "rebuilt" status on file.

There is nothing illegal about rebuilding a previously written-off car. In the ICBC case there was no disclosure.

That's a little harsh... there are many good bodyshops out there.

The car in question was hardly badly damaged... I'm surprised they even wrote it off.
