Looking for a New Puppy... Read first....

Found some interesting stories, As the pictures on the site say don't look unless your prepared.

http://www.thewrongpuppy.org/news.htm

I read the emails between the brokers and importers. I knew about this as most pet stores that sell buy them from a broker who got them from god knows where. It's still an eye opener to read them talk about replacing dead puppies like it's a vase that broke in transit. I wish it was law that you had to see/read all of these kind of things before getting a new pet.

honestly, i avoid pet stores like a plague when it comes to actually purchasing a puppy. i always always always go thru a breeder, EVEN if it means im just looking for a non pedegree mutt (which usually are a lot healthier than their pureblood counterparts)

i only go to petstores for food, toys, and to replace the dead fish my dad just killed in my fish tank.

I go with breeders or adoption through SPCA/SARA society. I'd rather adopt and give a pet a good home than support those puppy mills.

always stick with breeders. The treatment and huge mark up of animals from pet stores are bad

I know why these puppy mills stay in business, but it still shocks me when you can adopt for cheaper or for a few dollars more and some research find a good breeder. The thing people forget when looking at the 'cute' puppies at the store is that they don't stay looking that way. so really as fun as it is to have a 'cute' puppy adopting will still get you the same thing. A buddy.

puppies adopted from spca are usually older, the downside is you actually missed their earlier cutest phase. Pet stores will always find someone buying their puppies and they will not stop bringing new litter in.

One thing i always want to know is the ads on province or Vancouver sun newspapers. So many bulldogs or pugs for sale. Are they legit? they all ask for 2000$/ bulldog

ah the joys of backyard breeders.
what a real legit breeder does with health testing all the parents. Eye check, heart , hips, elbows, etc. These are all important to prevent puppies being born with issues. Sometimes you can end up with the same quality of puppy from a backyard breeder as from a puppy mill.
The big thing is to ask the questions about health testing, ask to see the records, ask why they bred (cause they wanted their kids to see, or cause both parents were cute or well tempered is not a good reason). For a purebred puppy you are looking at around $1000 to $2000.

Ahhh the joys of looking for a puppy. I found my old one on the street ... lol Someone just dumped her on the street and left her there by herself. My poor little jinny! She kept trying to play with a group of kids at school where my cousins taught. Everyday for like over a week she kept showing up, so we took her in. She was so paranoid that we would dump her that when she was off leash she would stop every few steps to check if we were still there.. That was SAD

I dont understand people who dump dogs or puppy mills either
