Aeroplan/Air Canada charge a fuel surcharge on international flights.. so your return flight to asia will cost you $700 in surcharges. But if you book the flight on other Star Alliance airlines (ie. United Airlines or whatever)... the surcharges are significantly lower. You can do this by calling up the Aeroplan Centre or sometimes can even find different airlines online when booking on the Aeroplan website.
