Not quite sure people are understanding your question. You're talking about buying online, then your last sentence says you want to buy locally.
If you're willing to buy locally, you're pretty much stuck with the big box retailers (Best Buy, Sears, MicroCenter, etc). Online probably has better options and better prices.
I'd start by jut narrowing your search down to a few models, then price it out on Froogle or any of the other price comparison sites. When you've found a few stores that sell it at a decent price, check their reviews on Resellerratings to make sure they're not a shady fly by night operation. If the warranty requires it be purchased from an authorized retailer, check to make sure the place you're buying it from an authorized retailer.
Some good online stores for electronics (but not necessarily always the cheapest) are Newegg, J&R, Crutchfield, Frys.com, Buy.com, Amazon. TV's will usually ship by freight carriers, so expect about $100 or so for shipping too.

That way, you don't have to pay sales tax (which can be up to 9% depending on your state and/or county). That price difference alone could cover your shipping costs depending on the price of your TV.
