I use avg. You can get avg for free if you're not willing to pay for the full version. I had used norton for the majoirty of the computers I had but it kills your system resources.

That thread was about free AV programs. This one isn't. Hence the fact that half the replies in this thread recommend NOD32, and almost everyone in the thread you posted recommend Avast/AVG.

Different topics.

Where did you find in the OP's post that he specified he wanted to pay $ for the AV program?

AntiVir, Avast!, AVG are all superior non-subscription AV program that works. Unless OP runs a small business I see no reason for an average user to pay for such services.

AVG, Avast, Antivir/avira are good free AV's.
If I had to pay/buy for an antivirus, I'd go with Norton 2009/2010 upcoming release, or the infamous nod32.

Norton 2009 has really improved. Very lightweight.

I use Shaw Secure. It detected a lot of junk I had.
I like it. Satisfied with it.

Nowhere. I'm not disputing that. But the other thread alienates pay programs such as Norton, NOD32, McAfee, Kaspersky, ZA, etc, some of which are in fact better than their free counterparts in terms of reliability, efficiency, speed of scan, false positives, or more.

btw Shaw Secure is a rebranded version of F-Secure. My dad runs it on his comp since it comes with Shaw, but I found it to be too resource intensive.
