Undercover Police Cars

I did a search, but didn't come up with anything. If I missed it, or just didn't use the right keywords, could someone just point me in the right direction, thanks.

So, I've been seeing a lot of undercover police cars driving around that in order to 'hide' themselves better, have appearences that would normally get 'us' a ticket. Are the police really that much above the law? IE: seen cars with N's on the back, sideways N's, plates in the front window, tint all around, tinted tails etc. Are they really allowed to do this, and then give out a ticket for the exact same thing?

SumAznGuy 07-25-2009 07:48 AM

Personally, I wouldn't think so.
If anything, their car's should follow the MVA rules to the dot. How can they expect us to follow the rules if they do not.

skidmark 07-25-2009 07:51 AM

No, they are not exempt from the rules for vehicle equipment.

That said, there is no rule that says they cannot display an N. The offence with regard to new driver signs is in not displaying one when it is required to be.

SumAznGuy 07-25-2009 08:06 AM

What about if the officer's vehicle had the N sideways so it looked like a Z, or if it was partially tucked behind the liscence plate to keep the N from fall off of the car?

Soundy 07-25-2009 09:02 AM

Sounds like someone got owned by a ghost car! :haha:

koukimonst3r 07-25-2009 09:06 AM

I live around scott rd and 72nd and saw this guy got pulled over around 1am by an ice cream undercover truck.

I was like seriously? an ice cream truck?! LOL

Nothing wrong with that I think? I used to have mine sideways and tucked under the plate and I got pulled over and the cop did not even mention that.

If you are not a N driver, i dont think it matters because you dont need to have one on the first place.I think it can be just considered as a magnet/decoration purpose. so having a N sideways for a class 5 is samething as having a sticker with the letter Z.

I know that of all the RCMP (ie. government owned) ghost cars that I've seen comply with the MVA and MVAR. I also know that I've seen several VPD vehicles with front tint.

What is the justification for this violation? It's highly dangerous.

Jeffield 07-26-2009 01:40 PM

So does what skidmark said apply to L signs as well?
As in, it isn't against the MVA or anything to display an L if you aren't an L driver right?

thats correct. you dont have to be a cop to put an N or L sign on the back of your car even though you dont need to. you can have a class 5 and put an L on the back, but why would you?

koukimonst3r 07-26-2009 08:54 PM

yeah man if you live in surrey like me, the undercovers I see are blazers, caravan's, altima's and yeah that ice cream truck.

124Y 07-26-2009 09:57 PM

Seriously!? An ICE CREAM TRUCK!?

koukimonst3r 07-26-2009 09:59 PM

I hear if you get a ticket from them, they give you a free ice cream sandwich to ease the pain.
