take a deep breath. It's because the Taiwanese people don't want to be with China. I know rejection is hard to take, but don't be a little girl about it.

Most people from Taiwan came from Fujian (ie SE China), which is why they look somewhat different from, say, someone in Beijing (the "stereotypical" Han). Of course, mixing with the aboriginals is going to make them look even more different. I'm not sure if the whole Dutch conquest back in tha day resulted in Euro-blood getting into the TW bloodline as well.
The whole "Is TW part of China" question is quite interesting. I've been yelled at (while in TW) for suggesting TW is not part of China, and also yelled at for suggesting otherwise. It totally depends on who you ask. Meanwhile, pretty much every Mainlander (ie China) out there asks will murder you on the spot if you suggest that TW is NOT part of China. The best is if you have TW/CN couple friends, and you ask both of them at the same time if TW is part of China.
Oh wellz, as long as they keep making cheap mobos and RAM sticks and cranking out Taichung JB, why do we all care.

Let's flip this situation a little bit so other people can understand why it's so confusing:
"What are you?"
"I'm Canadian"
"No you're not, you're Chinese"
Ethnically you can be Chinese but your nationality could be Canadian. You need to be a bit more specific when you ask someone "what are you?"
I don't think I've met anyone who's ever claimed that they were ethnically Taiwanese.
Taiwan should do a "I am Taiwanese" ad campaign for their beer like the "I am Canadian" ones they have here, I'd love to see the stereotypical traits people think Taiwanese people have.

"native" with traits such as dark skin or have different facial traits from a traditional "Chinese looking" person. | Not so much since many of the aboriginals are isolated in the mountains (kinda like reserves here but not really) Quote:

Oh wellz, as long as they keep making cheap mobos and RAM sticks and cranking out Taichung JB, why do we all care. | Hmm Dutch, that's an interesting one. Im sure it happened but it was many many centuries ago it probably doesn't have any effect now.
Unfortunately a lot of the semiconductor management moved their plants to China, but the JB are still there Quote:

We just one single country with 2 differnet ruling, democracy and communism.. | Wait, wut?
So since Vancouver has like 40% of its population of Chinese and Indian decsent..Vancouver is technically China and India as well? How insightful.
Two totally different political ideology + financial structure and still equating to one nation? My brain cells are dying from reading that. Quote:

edit: oh and, comparing Quebec/Tibet or whatever to Taiwan doesn't work well.
Quebec in the 17th century had the chance to fight for their name but they lost the war. They've been bitter since but the English still let their language be one of our two official langauges. They are not self-sufficient financially..I remember Bloc Quebecois said if they gained independence they would still need financial support from Canada for 15 more years or sthing. The biggest difference is that Canada had a referendum for their independence not once but twice. Taiwan on the other hand has been self-sufficient financially for the past 70 years. Physically it's an island so isolation is better achieved than cmopared to quebec.
Did taiwan ever get to fight for its name? Nope. Would China ever openly give a referendum for the self-determination of the island? Hell fucking noes. The minute the govt in TW tries to put one up the Red Army will be implementing an assault.
