How do I get my passport?

I believe they changed it and they require a passport to go into the States from now on since July or August.
I would like to go to the States at the end of this month or labour day.

So how do I get a passport quickly? Where do I start out from? Do I simply print out the form? or do I need to request a form to be mailed to me or go to the post office to get an official form?

Yes, that is exact procedure so just go do it. Remember to go to the Richmond location, it's not as busy compared to the downtown Vancouver location.

lol, there's a 2 month wait period since you have to get an interview with home security.

No.

When I went for my Enhanced Driver's License, I had to book an appointment off of ICBC's website at a location of my choice. I went in the next week or so for my appointment, answered a few questions (BTW, you need to answer a page or so in paperwork before going - no big deal at all), surrendered my currently DL, took the photo, paid the fee, and left. About a week later, I got my new DL. Activated it like instructed, and that's the end. They recommend you activate the new DL 72 hours before a trip so your DL registers in the system.

All in all, took maybe 2.5 weeks. It could be even shorter, it just depends on how soon of an appointment you can get at the ICBC center of your choice for the interview.

I just went through the quick online booking system and these dates are available for the Enhanced DL interview:

Yup. Some people never leave Vancouver it seems!

Sky_2000 08-06-2009 04:31 PM

for the trouble of the new Enhanced Driver's License you might as well get a passport. At least with a passport you can travel overseas

Thanks everybody!
Revscene is where I ask my questions first :)

Cman333 08-06-2009 09:21 PM

I just got mine not too long ago

It's a lil easier if you have an old passport, then you don't need someone to sign it and stuff.

You can download the application online, then fill it out, then bring it to the passport office. Takes about an hour or so.

Make sure to pre fill it cuz you need someone to verify who you are.

I got mine in the mail 3 weeks after I submitted the application.

Not neccessarily. My gf who has NEVER had a passport before took the same amount of time as me, and I had an expired passport. But it might be different, depends how fast they work. I've had/heard good service/time in the richmond location. :haha:

To be more specific, if you have an existing passport (even if it's expired), you can use the simplified passport renewal form, which requires less information than if you used the regular passport application form. You won't need a guarantor, for one.
