GordonTse 08-06-2009 08:14 PM

my buddy got clocked going down the hill couple weeks ago. he got shitty excessive.

shenmecar 08-06-2009 08:56 PM

Whats a speed trap?

Is it those radars that they have at some Elementary schools and tell you your speed?

fa1civic 08-06-2009 09:05 PM

its just a guy that has a speed gun and tickets u if u go over

quasi 08-06-2009 09:24 PM

I didn't know they sit there, must be more careful.

JesseBlue 08-06-2009 09:32 PM

i say its better if no one mentions about speed traps and let the speeders be caught...i mean do you think its great to pretend to behave when the cops are looking and then when they're not you can just speed like crazy?

fa1civic 08-06-2009 09:35 PM

they are gone now

catalin 08-06-2009 09:39 PM

Down that hill it's really not a big deal since it's a new major four lane street. There really isn't much other then a house on the west side... no pedestrians. All they want is our money, not protecting the streets from speeders.

If they really wanted to make it safe they could sit in my yard and bust all the punks going up and down my street.

And yes I always slow down and then stomp on the pedal when I get past them. :) It's just what happens, being smart about speeding is always a good thing as well though.

the cops hiding on the farm market entrance on the bottom of the hill?

on a side note. the produce farm market on the bottom of the hill on 176th is really good. They have all the local fruits, berries, veggies for a decent price. not like the big chain grocery stores that sell for double, and not even local stuff.

OT, but i know for a fact that the big chain stores are local veggies.

Yes

jeff_alexander 08-08-2009 01:32 AM

Why do we crack down on speeding so much anyways?

Alphamale 08-08-2009 03:08 AM

Thanks, Ackbar, you saved me a speeding ticket today.

because people speed? otherwise there wouldn't be a need to do it.

That or the city needs money haha

You know what's super cheapshot??? That new law where you have to change lanes when an emergency vehicle is on the side of the road (or highway) with its lights on right............ okay...

So on Thursday on Hwy91 just south of Alex Fraser where there's a truck pull-out, Delta police parked a marked police car on the side of the highway with its lights on and nobody in it, then they had 2 cops at the truck pull-out and pulled every single car over that didn't change lanes around the police car!

WTF is that... resorting to entrapment now to hand out tickets... very nice... good to see Delta Police has lots to do that they can afford to dedicate 3 officers to making money off some stupid new law that wasn't even clearly campaigned.

fa1civic 08-08-2009 11:00 AM

man talk about corruption.... this is messed

hotong 08-08-2009 11:18 AM

thanks for the heads up

Eff-1 08-08-2009 02:10 PM

Heads up those transit police cars will pull you over if you do something wrong. Some poor guy in front of me last night learned that first hand.

speed trap is a cop with a radar gun on the side of the road... its a trap, as opposed to a patrol car that witnesses you speeding, which is coincidence/bad timing.

That's not entrapment. Entrapment would be if there was a cop there waving people into the right lane, THEN another nabbing them further down.

The law is two-part: you must move over IF IT'S SAFE TO DO SO; and you must slow down (to 70 if the normal speed limit is 80 or higher; to 40 otherwise). My guess would be that since there's normally lots of traffic there and people may not be able to SAFELY move over, it's more likely that they were passing out speeding tickets. Seeing as most traffic speeds along 91 anyway, it's probably not much of a stretch that they'd still be speeding with a cop car parked there. (Actually, if you're stupid enough to speed past a marked car with its lights going, you probably deserve a ticket anyway).

I'm guessing you got nailed in this little "sting"?

the_rickster 08-09-2009 12:15 PM

its been publicly stated that police officers have been mandated to give out at least two moving infractions per day because of the lack of tickets they've been giving out lately... seems like the outlook from the top is that the patrol officers are either being lazy or too relaxed with the laws.

things like signaling lane changes and changing lanes inside an intersection will start to become more widely enforced.

No I didn't, I just watched it unfold because I was driving a government work vehicle at the time... and nobody parks a marked car with its lights on 150 feet from a speed trap that's just silly for reasons you already mentioned.

I realize it's not the definition of entrapment, but it is pretty underhanded to place that "bait" on the road with nobody in it when the intention of the law is for people to change lanes and give room to emergency vehicles that are addressing a situation and then sit there and hand out tickets for it when people are more scratching their heads wondering why an empty cruiser is sitting there doing nothing with no one pulled over......... not to mention it's right around a bend so everyone is jamming their brakes on like crazy on the highway.

Soundy 08-09-2009 09:04 PM

So how do you know they were actually handing out tickets? Maybe they were simply passing out warnings to make sure people knew about new law. I know it doesn't fit your image of cops, but they have been known to do clever things like that sometimes.
