850 has better handling, but the RWD ones are just more fun. Heck, a $200 240 Turbo on craigslist would make an awesome, albeit somewhat challenging, project. I found one, but the guy didn't respond. It also costs a third of my current phone LOLOLOLOL :haha: Moar Swedish pr0n: http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=178482 Quote:

Is there much you can do to an N/A Volvo? Seems like most volvo enthusiast/tuner boards are targeted to the Turbos. By more fun do you mean with powersliding and stuff, or in actual fun-to-drive-ness? I want something that has SOME type of FEEL to the driving (I am coming from a Miata... yea quite a difference). |
There is plenty that you can do. If you're really crazy, do the Ford V8 swap. One guy put an LS1 in his 740 wagon...that one is insane. Fine-tuning an NA Volvo is fine, but I'd go for an 850 if that's the case. You'll have enough power then, as they're the inline-5 engines. The 20-valve inline-4s in the 940 GLE and is a great engine, the inline-6 in the 960/S90 is also good. An NA B230 engine in a two-tonne, base Volvo 940 = nothing happens + not making it up the Cut on the Upper Levels Highway. :p Or, go insane and source yourself a Bertone. Italian designed Volvo coupés...heh. I almost bought a 780 Bertone last year...but what stopped me was that it wasn't in great condition and that parts are so hard to find. Those things are RARE. Incidentally, there's a 262 Coupé near my house and a 242 that belongs to a neighbour. :p |
Definitely not an engine swap lol. So for the N/A Volvos the 850 I-5, 940 GLE I-4 and 960 I-6 are the ones to look out for, gotcha. |
850 between 94 and 96, forget the S70s, 940/960 20v, 960 I-6 1995+. |

Oh, and don't bother with the 850 GLE. It came with the anemic 10v 148HP 5cyl, only available in Canada. There seems to be a surplus of those on CL however.. |

should have a volvo meet with the locals here |
My '88 760 turbo has treated me well. And how many other cars offer power windows/mirrors/seats/sunroof, heated mirrors/seats, automatic climate control, and more for $1000? |
i still dream of a Ford 5.0L-powered 240 wagon. *sigh* |

Bah! I'll rally some truly bricky bricks out hahah :lol |
lol only s40s?! how about anybody here with S60s, maybe we can do somethinbg |
Start something. But not in my "90's Volvos" thread. Oops, not mine. I digress. :p |
If you get a turbo model and know what you're doing you can make them going faily fast for cheap. I myself am a 240 man as I find the 700/900 series too boxy. In the 700/900 you're going to be getting an automatic (standard 700's are kinda rare). I have been driving rwd since my first car so I am a litte biased towards rwd and wont comment on the fwd 850 stuff:P I bought my first rusted out 242 for $500. Most reliable car I ever had, took that thing to hell and back and it still drove like a champ. Brickboard is mostly stock oriented questions, which is very nice sometimes. Turbobricks is pretty fun, and then there's volvospeed and swedespeed for the fwd stuff. Volvo's are tons of and they make very nice sleepers.. Go ahead, ask me how I know:P Quote:

No such thing as too boxy. :p Brickboard sounds like a good resource for a n00b, thanks! :) |
Arrg, Volvo or E30 BMW?! No good Turbos on the market (i.e. Craigslist) at the moment that I'm a fan of (non-gold, non-wagon) This is sweeet if not for the high kms: http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/rd...325044050.html |
"I'd buy that for a dollar!" :lol |
|
we used to have Volvo meets a few years ago with some guys from the Washington State area but it basicly dissolved. Volvoman probably remembers |
